Mickey Callaway told reporters before Wednesday night’s game against the Phillies that Noah Syndergaard will return from the 10-day IL (hamstring) and start on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.

Syndergaard, 26, made a rehab start for the Brooklyn Cyclones on Tuesday night in which he struck out nine batters over five innings while allowing three runs in the process.

The Mets optioned his replacement that made two starts in Syndergaard’s absence, Walker Lockett, on Wednesday and selected the contract of Chris Mazza from Triple-A Syracuse to add an extra arm to the bullpen. Mazza will likely be optioned back to Triple-A upon Syndergaard’s return.

In 2019, Syndergaard is 5-4 with a 4.55 ERA, 3.61 FIP, 1.211 WHIP, and 93 strikeouts over 15 starts (95 innings).
