Mickey Callaway spoke to reporters before Wednesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals and said that Michael Conforto has begun baseball activities.

According to the skipper, Conforto was swinging a bat “real easy, real laid back.” The outfielder has been out since last Thursday after suffering a concussion in a collision with Robinson Cano. Conforto has been on the 7-Day IL since then. Furthermore, Conforto was seen playing catch and throwing with “some zip.”

While the progress is noteworthy, Callaway admitted that there is no set timetable for his return, even though the outfielder is eligible to return this weekend.

Conforto, 26, has been having a strong start to his 2019 campaign as he has hit .271/.406/.521 with nine home runs and 21 RBI in 42 games this season.

The Mets could definitely use him right now as both Jeff McNeil (left hamstring tightness) and Brandon Nimmo (neck injury) are both dealing with ailments of their own forcing the team to trot out J.D. Davis, Juan Lagares, and Carlos Gomez in the outfield from left to right on Wednesday night.
