Mickey Callaway gave some interesting soundbites to the media prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals with the most noteworthy one possibly being in regards to Edwin Diaz.

Callaway told the press that the previously mentioned “three-out rule” is no longer in effect for Diaz and that they will use him simply as they see fit for as long as they need him to pitch.

The skipper’s reasoning for this is that the team needs to start winning games if they want to make it to the postseason and therefore have to treat every game like the playoffs, thereby having all of their resources at their disposal each and every night.

Diaz, 25, has been very good for the Mets so far this season as he has a 1.93 ERA, 1.018 WHIP, and 3.14 FIP to go along with a strong 13.5 SO/9 ratio.

The Mets acquired Diaz in December of this past offseason along with Robinson Cano in exchange for top prospects Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn as well as Jay Bruce, Anthony Swarzak, and Gerson Bautista.
