Jeff McNeil spoke with reporters before Wednesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals and said that he is dealing with left hamstring tightness and is out of the lineup tonight for that reason, as detailed by Tim Healey of Newsday.

McNeil, 27, entered Tuesday night’s game on an 0-for-12 skid, but ended it by going 2-for-5 with an RBI. The infielder/outfielder claims he hurt himself at second base in the ninth inning of the game.

2019 has gone very well for him so far as he is hitting .333/.418/.461 with two home runs and 15 RBI to give himself a 146 wRC+ and 1.2 fWAR.

The team has replaced him in the lineup with J.D. Davis, who entered the game last night at the same spot, which shifted McNeil to right field for the first time in his professional career. Amed Rosario moves up one spot in the lineup to hit leadoff in place of McNeil.

Depending on his ability to pinch-hit, the team could end up playing with only three available bench players as Brandon Nimmo (stiff neck) is also plagued by injury at the moment. If that were to be the case, Dominic Smith, Adeiny Hechavarria, and Wilson Ramos would be those options.
