The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros today at West Palm Beach, 7-4. Box Score

Pitching

Corey Oswalt was on the mound for the Metropolitans this afternoon against the Houston Astros, who allowed four hits, struck out four batters, and gave up only one earned run on a lead-off home run from George Springer. Oswalt’s ERA is at 2.08 this spring.

Joshua Torres came into relief for Oswalt during the top of the third to get the last two outs, which he did successfully.

Walker Lockett pitched the next three innings. The only runs allowed that he gave up was a two-run homer to third-baseman Alex Bregman.

Paul Sewald gave up the tying home run to Garrett Stubbs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Ryan O’Rourke pitched a scoreless eighth inning with three strikeouts.

Tim Peterson shut the door in the ninth to secure the Mets save.

Offense

Pete Alonso got the Mets offense started in the fourth inning by driving in the first run of the game doubling on a line drive to left field, Travis d’Arnaud came around to score to make the game 1-1.

In the top of the sixth, Alonso continued to rake at the plate with his second home run of the spring.

David Thompson hit a go-ahead two-run homer the following inning to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.

Rymer Liriano flew out to left field for a sacrifice fly in the eight inning scoring Ronny Mauricio to give them the lead again, 5-4. Luis Carpio doubled to left field to drive in the second run of the inning doubling the lead 6-4. Colton Plaia singled into center field to bring in the third run of the inning giving the Mets a 7-4 lead going into the ninth inning.

Alonso and d’Arnaud each had two hits in the game.

On Deck

Mets will continue their exhibition schedule at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium to take on the Miami Marlins in Jupiter, Florida. Jason Vargas will make his second start of the spring he will be facing Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins. The game will start at 1:05 p.m. ET. The game will not be televised or on the radio.
