As was expected, the New York Mets activated reliever Anthony Swarzak from the disabled list late this afternoon, ahead of Saturday night’s matchup with the Phillies.
It was reported earlier in the week that Swarzak, 32, would likely be returning to the team once they arrived back home from their nine-game road trip.
The right-hander signed a two-year, $14 million deal this past offseason to come to New York. In 22 appearances for the Mets this season, Swarzak has a 4.28 earned-run average, a 5.39 FIP, 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings, and a bloated 4.3 walks per nine.
Swarzak has been sidelined since August 5 with right shoulder inflammation. This was his second trip to the disabled list this season (April 2 through June 5, sore left oblique).
