The San Francisco Giants are heading into town to face the New York Mets in a four-game series at Citi Field beginning tonight. Zack Wheeler (8-6, 3.75 ERA) will take the mound against Giants’ left-hander Derek Holland (6-8, 3.83 ERA).

The Mets took the rubber game of their five-game set with the Phillies in the Little League Classic held in Williamsport, PA with an 8-2 victory.

Jason Vargas pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on a Carlos Santana two-run homer in the sixth, with three strikeouts and no walks.

Amed Rosario went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Jeff McNeil added two RBI, and Jose Bautista and Kevin Plawecki drove in a run apiece.

David Wright went 2-for-3 for the Advanced-A St. Lucie Mets on Sunday, racking up the first two hits of his rehab assignment. Jay Bruce went 2-for-5.

Sports Illustrated released an article out of their “vault” from April 6, 1987, written by Peter Gammons, about former Mets pitcher and current SNY analyst, Ron Darling, who turned 58 on Sunday.

Dominic Smith was recalled as the 26th man for the game on Sunday night. He had a pinch-hit, RBI double in the eighth inning to give the Mets an 8-2 lead.
