In his second minor league rehab appearance with the St. Lucie Mets, David Wright went 0-for-1 with a walk and a strikeout.
“Hopefully the results come, but that isn’t my number one concern right now. My main concern is just trying to catch up to the speed of the game,” Wright told reporters postgame.
In the field, he fielded a grounder for the first time, as he stepped on third for the force out but just missed the double play as he wasn’t able to get enough on the throw.
“First ground ball, it was a bit of a tricky one with the lefty. I had to try to field the squibler and make the throw on the run. It was a tough play, but I feel good about it,” Wright said.
In his first at-bat, Wright struck out looking on five pitches. He fell behind 0-2 in his second at-bat, but was able to battle back and after working the count full at 3-2, he drew a walk.
“Today I was trying to see some pitches, I think slowly but surely as you see the ball, the more pitches I can get under my belt the better,” Wright said.
Despite the lack of results, Wright says he feels good at the plate thus far.
“Ya know two games in and not much to show for it, but I feel good about the amount of pitches I’m seeing and the biggest think is just trying to figure out the strike zone,” Wright said.
When asked what he’ll be trying to do the next time out, Wright said ‘Get a hit’ with a chuckle.
He added, “It’s just about playing the game now. You can’t mimic game speed.. I’ve got to play, I’ve got to get at-bats, I’ve got to get balls hit to me.”
Through two games, Wright is now 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and a walk. He is scheduled to take an off day tomorrow after playing five innings on back-to-back days.
