The New York Mets won the series finale over the Arizona Diamondbacks by a 5-3 score on Father’s Day at Chase Field.
Pitching
Zack Wheeler was pretty solid for the Mets today. Wheeler was throwing the ball extremely hard today and touched 99.4 MPH at one point. The righty was perfect for his first three innings but in the fourth, things got a little messy. Wheeler allowed a RBI Double to David Peralta and got into a bases loaded, one-out jam. Wheeler gave up a RBI groundout to limit the damage to just two runs.
He settled back down to pitch a scoreless fifth and sixth innings. Wheeler’s final line: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. During that fourth inning, Jason Vargas got ejected for arguing balls and strikes. These were likely the calls he was arguing:
Yeah, there appeared to be some, uh, iffy calls from Jim Reynolds in the fourth. Here are the walks to Goldschmidt and Descalso. https://t.co/zUGIR6kStQ pic.twitter.com/mNQ34xFPMx

Hansel Robles pitched the seventh inning . He gave up a few baserunners but got out of the inning unscathed.
Jeurys Familia pitched the eighth inning on his first day back. He gave up a run and got out of other trouble. He did not have any rehab games.
Robert Gsellman pitched around an error to pick up the save, his third of the season.
Offense
Brandon Nimmo doubled to leadoff the game. He came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Todd Frazier.
The Mets had a nice scoring chance in the sixth when they got Brandon Nimmo and Asdrubal Cabrera on to begin the inning. Unfortunately, the Mets could not get the runners home. Jay Bruce struck out to end the threat, in a frustrating day for him.
They had another shot in the seventh but this time with two outs. Jose Reyes and Wilmer Flores walked but Brandon Nimmo struck out.
In the ninth, down two, Jose Reyes singled and scored on a double by Jose Bautista. Brandon Nimmo then homered to give the Mets a 4-3 lead. Asdrubal Cabrera followed with a homer of his own.
Nimmo had three hits on the day while Cabrera had two.
On Deck
The Mets go to the Rocky Mountains to take on the Rockies on Monday. That game will begin at 8:40 p.m. with Jacob deGrom matched up against lefty Tyler Anderson.
