The New York Mets outlasted the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon, scratching out a 5-4 victory in front of a packed house at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida.
Pitching:
Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched seven innings.
Thor didn’t have his marvelous strikeout numbers, but still got the job done against a solid Orioles lineup. His final line was: seven innings pitched, eight hits, one run and five strikeouts. He also lowered his ERA to 1.35 in the process.
Seth Lugo pitched the eighth. He gave up three runs including a home run to Danny Valencia. He also struck out three batters. Lugo last pitched Friday and also pitched one inning in that match.
Robert Gsellman pitched the ninth inning and earned the save for New York. He pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He also last pitched an inning on Friday.
Offense:
Travis d’Arnaud led the way for New York. The catcher homered in the second and also doubled in two runs against Dylan Bundy. He, like Kevin Plawecki, has hit well this spring after hitting well last September.
Brandon Nimmo had an RBI single in the game while also reaching base once. Matt den Dekker also tripled in the game and Amed Rosario went 1-for-4.
On deck:
Steven Matz will get the ball and pitch for New York tomorrow. Zack Wheeler will also pitch, either piggybacking with Matz or in a minor league game. It has yet to be decided.
