So far this offseason, the Miami Marlins have stripped down their core of young talent. The most recent deal saw them ship off Marcell Ozuna to St. Louis.
However, a player they plan to keep for the time being is Christian Yelich, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com on Twitter.
A package for Yelich would have likely cost more than what the team got for Ozuna, as he is owed a guaranteed $44.5 million through 2021 and just $7 million this upcoming season.
The 26-year-old clubbed 18 homers and drove in 81 runs while hitting to a .282/.369/.439 clip in 695 plate appearances this past season.
Him and catcher J.T. Realmuto figure to be two pieces for the Marlins to build around now that their fire sale is mostly extinguished.
