The New York Mets lost 3-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday Afternoon and dropped three-out-of-four in the series.

Pitching

Rafael Montero continued to make progress. The righty pitched well until the fifth inning when he gave up two runs and another in the sixth.

His final line read: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.

Lots of work to be done still but it’s a step in the right direction.

The Mets bullpen continued their recent stretch of dominance. Josh Smoker pitched a scoreless inning of relief and Chasen Bradford had 0.2 scoreless innings of his own.

Bradford now has a 9.1 inning scoreless streak dating back to August 4.

Erik Goeddel threw two scoreless frames with four strikeouts in that time.

Offense

Yoenis Cespedes homered in the fourth inning to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead. He was on base four times in the game including a ninth inning intentional walk with the tying run on third base.

Cespedes has hit very well in the month of August. Hopefully he uses this to spring him into 2018 on a good note.

Gavin Cecchini was on base two times and Kevin Plawecki got on three times as he continues his hot hitting since being recalled.

Michael Conforto left the game in the fifth inning after dislocating his left shoulder while he was swinging.

The Mets had their chances in this game, but they ended up going 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on.
