Offense:

The Mets offense erupted for eleven runs tonight on the strength of six home runs, which has become a reoccurring theme recently.

Michael Conforto launched a two-run shot to right field to give the Mets an immediate lead in the first inning.

Yoenis Cespedes, who has been on fire lately, added his fourth homer of the year to left central, a three-run shot to give the Mets a commanding five run lead.

After chasing Vince Velasquez from the game after just 4.1 innings, the hit parade didn’t stop. Neil Walker hit his fifth home run of the game in the sixth against Brett Oberholtzer.

In the seventh inning, Lucas Duda hit his second home run in as many games, which was followed by Neil Walker’s second of the game and sixth of the campaign to put the Mets up 9-0 at the time.

Curtis Granderson put the icing on the cake for the Mets, launching a two-run home run off of James Russell in the eighth inning.

Logan Verrett even chipped in a hit of his own and scored a run, as the Mets offense put together twelve hits.

Pitching:

Logan Verrett has really proved to be a guy the Mets can rely on in a tight situation, as in his second spot start for Jacob deGrom, Verrett pitched another great game, tossing six scoreless innings, scattering six hits and striking out four.

Jim Henderson pitched a clean seventh inning, before handing it off to Rafael Montero, who let up one run in the eighth.

Hansel Robles then shut the door for the Mets in the ninth, solidifying the win for the Mets, even though this one was a laugher and was over before it really even started.

On deck:

The Mets will look for the series sweep tomorrow night, with Bartolo Colon (1-1, 2.13 ERA) taking on Jeremy Hellickson (1-1, 4.30 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
