According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig could be on the move.
Team president Andrew Friedman will consider offers for any player on his roster, including Puig. Reports have surfaced that he’s been a problem in the clubhouse for LA, and they are warming up to the idea of unloading their young superstar.
“We’ve talked about this,” one Dodgers player told Yahoo Sports. “At this point, it would be addition by subtraction.”
Still, the Dodgers are unlikely to make a deal, but the Mets may be a perfect match.
New York has a surplus of excellent young pitching, and they desperately need a powerful bat like Puig to improve their struggling offense.
For his career, he’s a .302 hitter and has a .879 OPS. The 24-year old outfielder is batting .283 this year with three home runs and ten RBI in 37 games.
He’s also under team control until 2019, and he is owed just $4.5MM this season and $5.5MM next year.
Speaking for myself, I certainly wouldn’t go as far as trading Jacob deGrom or Matt Harvey, but I’d be very tempted to offer them Steven Matz or Noah Syndergaard and see if they bite.
Puig is one of those rare five-tool players, and he would instantly transform the Mets’ lineup.
This could be the move that the Mets have been waiting for. Puig is exactly the type of core offensive player the team needs.
