The Mets (45-62) pounded out 19 hits in a 14-3 blowout of the National League East rival Braves (62-44) on Monday night at Citi Field, getting a three-hit, six-RBI night from Francisco Lindor and a bullpen effort that shut Atlanta down after the fourth inning.

(Box Score)

Zac Thornton got the start for New York and worked into the seventh, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts over 6 and 1/3 innings and 81 pitches. He earned the win and now owns a 2-1 record on the season. Huascar Brazobán got the final two outs of the seventh scoreless, recording a hold, and Daniel Duarte closed it out with a clean eighth and ninth, striking out three.

Atlanta got on the board first. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Drake Baldwin opened the game with back-to-back singles, and after a double play moved Acuña to third, Ozzie Albies‘ RBI single made it 1-0. Albies’ single ended Thornton’s 18-inning scoreless streak.

New York answered immediately in the bottom of the first — A.J. Ewing led off with a single and came around to score on Francisco Lindor’s RBI triple, tying it at 1-1.

Thornton settled in and had set down the order in the second and third innings. In the home half of the third, New York pulled ahead with another one-two punch from Ewing and Lindor, who led off the inning with a base hit, and a Lindor homer made it 3-1, Mets. The home run was his seventh of the season.

It was a close back-and-forth affair, as the Braves tied it up again with a two-run homer from Albies in their next time up.

From there, the Mets took over completely. In the sixth, Tyrone Taylor singled, and Marcus Semien followed with a go-ahead two-run homer to make it 5-3.

New York blew it open in the seventh: Francisco Alvarez walked, Jared Young singled him to third, and Taylor crushed a three-run homer to make it 8-3. Later in the frame, Semien walked, Luis Torrens doubled him to third, and a Bo Bichette sacrifice fly plated Semien to push it to 9-3.

The Mets weren’t done, though. In the eighth, Alvarez walked, and Young reached on a fielder’s choice, then Taylor and Semien strung together back-to-back singles to load the bases. Torrens drew a bases-loaded walk to score Young (10-3), and Ewing’s sacrifice fly brought home Taylor (11-3). Lindor capped the inning with a three-run homer, his eighth of the season, scoring Semien and Torrens to make it a final blowout of 14-3.
