On Monday the Mets got a great start from Jon Niese who pitched 8.0 scoreless innings, but get this, I know it’s surprising, the Mets hadn’t scored a run yet. Thankfully, the Mets were able to string hits together and suppress baserunning miscues that haunted them earlier to scratch out three runs in the top of the ninth and Familia shut the door from there. Bartolo Colon looks to keep the good times rolling today.
On the season Colon is 9-6 over 16 starts and 99.0 innings with a 4.55 ERA. After back to back poor starts where he allowed 10 ER over 10.1 innings of work, he tossed 7.0 shutout innings his last time out striking out 8 batters in a game the Mets eventually lost 2-0. He missed the Giants earlier this year but last year he was 0-1 over 2 games allowing 9 runs, 7 earned and 10.1 innings. The Giants have the following numbers against Colon:
- Pagan 4-9, 2B
- Posey 3-7, 2B
- Crawford 4-7
- Blanco 1-6
- Maxwell 2-6
- Belt 1-5, HR
Matt Cain is making his second start of the season today. In his first start he allowed 5 ER over 5.0 innings over 7 hits and 2 strikeouts. He sidelined to start the year with a strained flexor tendon. Last year he was 2-7 over 15 games and 90.1 innings with a 4.18 ERA. Last year he allowed 2 ER over 7.0 innings of work against the Mets. The Mets have the following numbers against Matt:
- Murphy 4-16, 2B, HR
- Tejada 5-13, HR
- Duda 1-8, 3B
- Cuddyer 2-6, 2B
- Granderson 0-2
- Lagares 1-3
Let’s Go Mets!
