10/30 Winter League Results: Mejia Deactivated From Dominican Team

Nothing doing for the Scorpions in this one as they were shut out and held to only three hits on the day by Desert Dog pitching staff. One of those hits came off the bat of Gimenez in the bottom of the fourth inning via a line drive single up the middle that ricocheted off the pitcher. It was the Scorpions best chance at scoring all day as Gimenez would reach third base with two outs but was left stranded. Joe Zanghi made his appearance in this one after six days off and bounced back well from his two previous poor showings. After walking the lead-off batter, Zanghi would generate a strikeout and two fly outs to complete his inning of work.

With only twelve games left in the schedule, the Scorpions fall two games behind first place in the East Division with a (9-9) record.

After a pair of poor performances, RHP Scott Copeland has been released by the Naranjeros and replaced by Dennis O’Grady. In his two starts for the club, Copeland allowed ten earned runs in only four and two-thirds innings pitched with nine hits and six walks.

Peterson continued his dominance of the LIDOM with another perfect inning of work netting his third save of the season and his fourth straight perfect appearance.

Jenrry Mejia was deactivated by the Toros del Este for this week’s games due to an injury he sustained last week. During his start on Tuesday, Mejia was drilled on the knee by a comebacker and was forced to leave the game after only two innings of work. For now, it only seems like the injury is enough for him to miss his one start.
