Manuel Keeps Thole: Turner Sent Down In Ollie’s Return
Beyond popular belief, it was actually Justin Turner who was sent back to AAA-Buffalo instead of Josh Thole after the conclusion of last night’s game. With the return of Oliver Perez now a reality, and the news that Ollie will be joining the bullpen as a lefty specialist, Jerry Manuel had a difficult decision but actually did something right in keeping Thole over Turner. I am very happy with Manuel’s decision here as Josh Thole will help [...]

Oliver Perez Is Exactly What Is Wrong With The Mets
It looks like later today or possibly tomorrow Oliver Perez will be reactivated and be back with the big league team. The genius that Jerry Manuel is has reportedly decided to use him the bullpen as a second lefty. The fact that Oliver Perez is going to be back on this team just shows how bad the management of this team really is. Oliver Perez shouldn’t even be on this team anymore. Perez was signed [...]

Tejada Optioned To Buffalo In Castillo’s Return
Ruben Tejada had a closed door meeting today with the Mets, and apparently he couldn’t convince them to let him stay in the majors. He was optioned back to AAA-Buffalo as Luis Castillo has finished his rehab and has returned to the Mets. Tejada was optioned because the Mets want him to play everyday and he wouldn’t have had much playing time now with Castillo back. Jose Reyes has also returned and will be in [...]

Luis Castillo, Oliver Perez To Be Activated Today
Yesterday, after the Mets salvaged the final game in San Francisco to avoid the sweep, Jerry Manuel spoke with reporters. Luis Castillo – Castillo will be joining the Mets today in Arizona, where the Mets begin a three game series with the Diamondbacks. He is expected to be activated before the game and resume his tole as the team’s everyday second baseman. Jose Reyes – All signs point to the return of Jose Reyes to [...]

Are Ollie’s Days As A Met Numbered?
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that Oliver Perez may have pitched his last game as a New York Met. Perez turned off many of his teammates when he refused to accept a minor league assignment before being shuffled to the DL with an encore performance of the mysterious knee injury. It even prompted an internal investigation by the commissioners office, Ollie certainly didn’t endear himself to manager Jerry Manuel with his unwillingness to work out his problems in [...]

Good Golly, Miss Ollie?
Thomas Kaplan of the NY Times updates us on Oliver Perez who made his third minor league start for Class AAA Buffalo this afternoon. Perez had a rough outing Sunday. He allowed only one unearned run in five innings, but they were five extraordinarily ugly innings: Perez gave up three hits and five walks; hit two batters; and threw two wild pitches. Only 52 of his 100 pitches were strikes, and he also made a throwing [...]

Cliff Lee Won’t Help The Mets
Cliff Lee is one of the best pitchers in the game. Last year’s performance in the World Series was spectacular. Lee was brilliant against one of the best if not the best lineup in the game in 2 starts. The two games that the Phillies won were Lee’s in the Fall Classic. It’s now 2010 and Cliff Lee is now a member of the Seattle Mariners. Lee is having an amazing first half for Seattle. [...]

Rehab Update: Carlos Beltran Doing Fine, Oliver Perez, Not
Carlos Beltran continues to do well while playing rehab games in the Florida State League for St. Lucie. Last night, Beltran was 2-4 with an RBI and played all nine innings in centerfield and even made a diving catch. After the game Beltran spoke to reporters: “I feel better and better everyday,” Beltran said after the game. “Since I have began playing in games, I have not held back. I have played hard, the way the game [...]

Why Is Johan Exempt From Criticism?
Johan Santana is not having a great year so far. Santana is 5-5 with an ERA of 3.55. It’s obvious that the great Santana is on a decline. Santana’s K/9 ratio is at a career low. Even more alarming Santana’s contact ratio is at a career high! His average velocity is also at a career low. I understand that you can’t go by wins and loses with pitchers, it’s a meaningless stat. It’s true in [...]

I Hate To Bring This Up, But…..
This is one of those posts that may incite a riot, but I’ll knock wood, and cross my fingers and toes when I say what I have to say…..that the Mets have had no serious injuries yet this season to key players. We won’t count Carlos Beltran, who had surgery back in January, or Jose Reyes, who began the year on the DL but joined the team shortly after. And we certainly won’t count underachievers [...]

Mets Have Trade Bait
Omar Minaya became the General Manager at the end of the 2004 season. Since then the Mets have mostly been quiet when it comes to the trade deadline. Except for 2006, when Duaner Sanchez went for a cab ride, injured his shoulder, forcing Omar to make a trade with the Pirates for Oliver Perez (thanks a lot Duaner!) and Roberto Hernandez the trade deadline always comes and goes for the Mets. This year looks like [...]
