With the Miami Marlins rolling into Citi Field tonight and the memory of their sweep over the Mets still fresh in our minds, here is some added incentive for the Mets to come out swinging this evening. Entering tonight’s contest, the Mets are hitting .228 as a team, baseball’s second-worst average. The only team worse is… wait for it… the Miami Marlins, who are just one-thousandth of a percentage behind with .227 average. Andrew Keh […]
In case you missed it, lefthander Jon Niese tossed 39 pitches yesterday, in a successful bullpen session at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. Niese said he had no problems, threw the ball free and easy, and was able to get his arm angle to where he wanted to. He does not foresee any after effects tomorrow and said he felt much better than his previous bullpens in between starts. “It was nice to throw a bullpen […]

I just wanted to add some new comments David Wright made to Newsday regarding his recent slump that has seen him go 10-for-his-last-49 at the plate with just one home run and two RBI, dropping his average to .277 for the season. “I’m maybe trying to do a little too much and trying to make some things happen. I can’t be going up there and getting myself out or swinging at pitcher’s pitches early in the […]
Series Preview: Mets at Marlins Tonight, the suddenly-streaking Mets begin a three-game series with the lowly Marlins down in Miami. While it appeared early on that the Mets and Marlins would be “battling” for last place in the NL East, the gap between the two teams has widened considerably. The Marlins are by far, the worst team in baseball, coming in at 13-41, including 7-20 at home. The Marlins were already supposed to be one […]
Hitting for the cycle has always been one of the more singular batting feats in baseball. It is a relatively rare occurrence but not one that guarantees anything in particular for the team of the player who achieves one beyond a mention on the sports page. Granted, it involves getting four hits (a good thing) with three being for extra bases (a very good thing), but from a pure baseball perspective one could propose that […]
Somehow, the Miami Marlins are playing worse than they were expected to. As it stands right now, the Martlins are 6-19. That’s a .240 winning percentage, which is even worse than the Astros, who are at .280 this season. On offense, the Marlins are dead last in baseball in runs scored, OPS, and home runs, among other categories. They are scoring only about 2.7 runs per game, and their pitching staff hasn’t been much better. […]

(Photos by US Presswire, Collage by Joe D.) If you’re the kind of baseball fan that still loves a good old-fashioned pitching duel like thrill of a Tom Seaver vs. Steve Carlton matchup, then tonight’s contest between the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets will be right up your alley. As I said last week, every time Matt Harvey steps onto a mound it is must-see TV, but tonight’s contest comes with the added thrill of […]
