Put It In The Books! The Mets 2011 season is finally over! What can I say about the Mets 2011 season except thankfully it has finally come to an end. Coming into this season I didn’t expect much and in turn we didn’t get much from this team Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins put out there this year. I know there are people who will for some reason say this was a good season. I [...]
Let’s all be honest, we knew what this team was before the season even started. Not losing all faith yet, but the Mets may in fact be sellers at the deadline. Recently I was asked if the Mets would be sellers or buyers at the deadline, to which I responded buyers. However that was the optimistic side of me talking. Or maybe it was Sandy repeatedly saying comments like “We’re playing for 2011″. Either way [...]
The Mets just announced that equiptment manager Charlie Samuels has been fired for violating club policies. “The New York Mets announced today that they have terminated Charlie Samuels’ employment with the Mets for conduct in violation of club policies. This decision is the result of a thorough internal investigation over the course of several months. The Mets will have no further comment on this matter.” Updated 11/5 11:00 PM This is starting to feel like an episode [...]
Latest Update form ESPN: Attorneys and prosecutors continue to work on a plea bargain in the case of New York Mets reliever Francisco Rodriguez, who is charged with third-degree assault, second-degree harassment and criminal contempt. Rodriguez would not comment Wednesday morning after appearing briefly in Queens Criminal Court. After the hearing, Judge Elisa Koenderman adjourned the case until Dec. 3, mentioning Rodriguez’s next court appearance as “a possible disposition or trial date.” But Christopher Booth, [...]
It’s an interesting question and one posed by Randy Youngman, a columnist for the Ocean County Register. The New York Mets are open to trading closer Francisco Rodriguez, who is entering the final year of a three-year, $37 million contract that will pay him $11.5 million in 2011. Would the Angels be interested in re-acquiring K-Rod? Possibly, if his legal problems related to an altercation with his father-in-law are resolved this winter. The Angels don’t have [...]
Yesterday the inevitable news broke that the Mets and Francisco Rodriguez (K-Rod) came to a settlement after K-Rod attacked his girlfriend’s father. The results of the settlement means that K-Rod is now off the disqualified list and his contract is still guaranteed. In turn the Mets will not pay K-Rod his 2010 salary of 3.1 million dollars. If his option vests next year, he will still get paid $29 million dollars for the next two seasons. I guess this [...]
Lawyers from Major League Baseball and the players’ association will meet today to discuss the grievance filed after the New York Mets withheld the remainder of this season’s salary from Francisco Rodriguez. Under baseball’s collective bargaining agreement, the meeting is required before the grievance can be scheduled for argument in front of arbitrator Shyam Das. New York’s decision, and an earlier move to put him on the restricted list for two days, cost Rodriguez $3,142,076 [...]
About 2 weeks ago principal owner Fred Wilpon was asked about Omar Minaya’s job status after the 2010 season. Clueless Fred responded by saying: “Is the sun coming up tomorrow?” I cannot understand where this vote of confidence is coming from. Omar Minaya has been the General Manager since the end of the 2004 season. In that time Omar has built a team that went to the playoffs ONCE! As we all know in 2007 [...]
I had thought before the all-star break that the Mets had a realistic shot at taking over first place in the division with a 3-game deficit against the first-place Braves. Of course, that didn’t turn out as planned and we limped into the break 4 games back. Now, with the Mets 1-5 on their western swing and in danger of falling way out of the race by the time they come home, I offer you [...]
It’s now apparent that the Mets do have what it takes to make a run for the division. We find ourselves in this position because it turns out the Mets were not as bad as many of the experts had projected, and the NL East in general had a lot more parity at the top than expected; Philadelphia was not the juggernaut everyone thought they were. The Mets do have some questions as they enter [...]
While rumors of the Mets acquiring a top line starter still abound – Cliff Lee , Roy Oswalt and the rest of the 2010 cadre of possible trade deadline pickups – the acquisition of a reliever may be just as imperative on Omar Minaya’s wish list. As of today the Mets have the 11th best bullpen ERA in the majors at 3.67. Unfortunately we tend to remember the implosions such as Francisco Rodriguez’ recent meltdown [...]
