Phillies May Pursue Takahashi, Feliciano Status Still Unknown, Arbitration Deadlines

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NewYork, the Philadelphia Phillies have declined their team option on J.C. Romero, and are now in the hunt for a left-handed reliever. The Philadelphia Inquirer (as per Rubin) is speculating that the Phillies may now have strong interest in Hisanori Takahashi who was released by the Mets after they were unable to work out a new contract with him. Takahashi,  35, is reportedly seeking a three-year deal worth about $15MM after a successful rookie [...]

Who Replaces Takahashi? This Reliever Is Worth A Look.

As you all know by now, the Mets have released Hisanori Takahashi as per the special terms of the 1-year deal he signed last offseason. Takahashi is now a free agent, and at midnight tonight, he will be joined by fellow southpaw Pedro Feliciano. Takahashi, 35, was said to be looking for a 3-year deal worth $15 million dollars. What lefty specialist Pedro Feliciano will be looking for has yet to be determined, but some reports having him [...]

From Left Field: Are Takahashi And Dickey Worth Two-Year Deals?

Two of the bright spot from an otherwise bleak 2010 Mets squad were pitchers Hisanori Takahashi and Robert Alan Dickey. Dickey is eligible for arbitration and Takahashi is a free agent, with the deadline to negotiate with Takahashi fast approaching. When the Mets signed Takahashi, they didn’t really know what they were going to get from the Japanese lefty. However, he pitched so well in spring training that the Mets had to carry him on [...]

Feliciano Is A Type B Free Agent, Takahashi Extends Deadline

Mets reliever Pedro Feliciano is has officially been classified as a Type B free agent. What that means to the Mets is that Feliciano just picked up a whole lotta leverage this offseason. If he had been classified as a Type A free agent, as many thought he would, Feliciano would have had a hard time getting a deal from another team this offseason because most teams would have been reluctant to part with their first round [...]

Takahashi Switches Agents Ahead Of 10/31 Deadline

Updated 10/27 10:00 PM According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Hisanori Takahashi has switched agents from Ed and Peter Greenberg to Arn Tellem. Tellem represents several Japanese players, including Hideki Matsui. What will happen with Takahashi?

Personally, I’d like him back in the same role next season, but I have to wonder. Takahashi is a free agent this winter and wants to be a starter, and those starts against the Yankees and Phillies only reinforce that thought in his mind. His numbers are superior coming out of the bullpen than as a starter. However, they are representative numbers that could improve if he worked at that role. He gave the Mets [...]

Thole Story! Mets Win 2-1 In Extras

Pat Misch pitched eight strong innings and solo home runs from Ike Davis and Josh Thole secured the win in extra innings for the Mets. Game Notes Pat Misch pitched the best he has this entire season, striking out a career-high ten batters and walking one and allowing a run on three hits in his eight innings. Pat was getting the anxious Nats to swing at breaking balls out of the zone, and this was [...]

Niese Rocked, Mets Lose 7-5

Jonathon Niese was abused in the first inning and that set the tone for the Mets and left them playing from behind for the entirety of the game, losing the series to the Marlins, by losing tonight 7-5. Game Notes Jonathon Niese was horrible in the first inning, giving up five of the six runs he would ultimately allow, including walking one. Niese’s control today was horrible, walking six batters. His best performances of the [...]

Mets Offense Hangs On To Win Third Straight 8-7

Jenrry Mejia didnt make it out of the third due to injury, but the Mets offense came through big and won their third straight. Game Notes Jenrry Mejia was removed in the third inning and diagnosed with a pulled muscle behind his shoulder. After throwing the pitch, he appeared to clutch his back. Hopefully, this has nothing to do with the strain he sufferred when he returned to the minor leagues. Raul Valdes relieved him [...]

I’d Rather Have Takahashi Over Feliciano In 2011

In Wednesday’s 3-2 Mets win over the Nationals, Hisanori Takahashi worked the ninth inning for his fifth save in as many tries. We now know enough about Takahashi to understand that he is best suited to be a reliever as opposed to a starting pitcher. The problem is that Takahashi still prefers to start despite evidence that proves he becomes increasingly ineffective the second time against a batting order and a complete disaster if they [...]
