Jonathon Niese was abused in the first inning and that set the tone for the Mets and left them playing from behind for the entirety of the game, losing the series to the Marlins, by losing tonight 7-5.

Game Notes

Jonathon Niese was horrible in the first inning, giving up five of the six runs he would ultimately allow, including walking one. Niese’s control today was horrible, walking six batters. His best performances of the season have passed him by, and honestly it would be nice to see the Mets shut him down for the season and give him some much deserved rest.

The bullpen was pretty good on the day minus Hisanori Takahashi was hit hard allowing a run on three hits and striking out one. This is the first time Hisanori has looked like his armor could be damaged. Sean Green had a great outing today, walking one and striking out three in his only inning of work. Manny Acosta came out for one out and struck out the only batter he faced.

The Mets bats today struck in multiple innings, but in the eighth inning with the bases loaded only managed to bring across two runs on a walk and a ground out with one out. The decision to bring in Nick Evans to pinch hit against a tough righty was a slight surprise, but he was the superior hitting option to Jesus Feliciano in terms of power and clutch hits on the year. Overall, a decent performance but when the Mets get great pitching, no hitting, and when they get good hitting they get poor pitching performances.

Carlos Beltran hit his fifth home run of the season, in over 200 at bats. That kind of power production could be duplicated by Chris Carter. But his production today was great, at 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI

Lucas Duda, 1-2 with an RBI and a walk. Since his horrible start to the season, he has really begun to heat up.

Turning Point

Jonathon Niese and his atrocious first inning changed the game, because it put the Mets in the chase position for the entire game.

Game Ball

Just placing this here, to remind the Mets of about a month ago what you play for, the recognition of your hard work and never say die attitude. Isn’t present now.

On Deck

The Mets have the day off tomorrow, so hopefully they win at having an off-day.
