Parnell Is Going Nowhere And I’d Bet Murphy Is Safe Too
Andy Martino of the Daily News is reporting that a source told him the Mets do not intend to trade Bobby Parnell as the trade deadline approaches and consider him to be a “valuable” piece for the team. Martino says this supports Alderson’s claim that he could be a buyer at the trade deadline and not a seller which many expected to be the case. The GM’s decision not to shop the closer speaks to [...]

Gee Brilliant, Mets Bats Power 5-1 Win Over The Cards
Dillon Gee was dominant for the Mets as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-1 tonight at Citi Field to even the series at one game apiece. It was the third consecutive solid outing for Gee who is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in that span. The righthander held one of the most potent offenses in the game to just one earned run tonight in 6.2 innings pitched, scattering just six [...]

Sorry Met Fans, But Bobby Parnell Is Not An All-Star
Couldn’t help reading today that Bobby Parnell deserves to be an All Star on MetsBlog. Sorry, but I beg to differ. Parnell ranks 13th out of 15 National League closers with 9 saves. The leader, Pittsburgh’s Jason Grilli, has 22 saves, while Edward Mujica of the Cardinals and Craig Kimbrel have 17 saves each. All three have ERAs of 1.93 or lower. Do those three deserve to be All Stars? You bet they do. Parnell isn’t [...]

Featured Post: Sandy’s Mets Are Not Progressing
After an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the lowly Miami Marlins and a loss to begin the Nats series, the Mets find themselves on pace for just 66 wins and 96 losses which would amount to their worst season in a full decade. Certainly there is time for such grim propositions to change, but with fans already checking out at the idea of yet another lost season, the Mets’ problems are much deeper than [...]

Mets Waste Another Gem By Hefner In Nationals 3-2 Walk-Off Win
I’m feeling very ill tonight so I hope you don’t mind this very condensed version of tonight’s game. The Mets blew a 2-1 ninth inning lead as the Washington Nationals tagged closer Bobby Parnell for two runs in their dramatic 3-2 walk-off win. Jeremy Hefner threw an absolute gem, holding the Nats to one run on four hits while striking out seven. His only blemish was a solo home run to Ian Desmond. As I [...]

Fried Rice: Has Collins Burned Out His Lefty Reliever?
If you didn’t know any better, you would think the Mets only had two relievers in their bullpen; closer Bobby Parnell and lefthander Scott Rice. On those rare occasions when the Mets need to protect a late lead, Parnell and Rice have been Terry Collins‘ first line of defense and his go-to guys. For Rice, it has led to an NL-leading 32 appearances. That puts the late-blooming rookie on pace for 96 appearances this season. [...]

Who Carried The Mets Lunchpail In May?
Daniel Murphy’s college coach called him Joe Lunchpail; a blue collar guy who, for his age, “… knows as much about hitting as anybody out there,” said Terry Alexander, Jacksonville University Dolphins. “He wants to take it to a science.” Murphy hit .317 during the month of May, including 10 doubles. He is second in the league in two-base hits. New York Post beat writer Mike Puma adds this impressive stat: Murphy had 12 two-out [...]

Collins Pulling Gee Was A Mistake That Didn’t End Up Hurting The Team
Updated with thoughts by Joe D. on 5/31 When Terry Collins removed Dillon Gee in the eighth inning last night after registering one out, I like everyone else who were interacting on Twitter busted a gasket. Here was Gee, pitching the game of his life and in the midst of retiring 15 consecutive batters – including the last five via a strikeout – and Collins decided to pull him despite only throwing 88 pitches to that [...]

Gee Shines In Mets 3-1 Victory Over Yankees To Complete Subway Series Sweep!
In stunning fashion, Dillon Gee and the New York Mets beat the New York Yankees by the score of 3-1 tonight at Yankee Stadium to complete their first ever Subway Series sweep. Wow, what a performance by Dillon Gee who pitched the game of his life tonight against the Yankees. The righthander held the Bronx Bombers to just one run on four hits, walked none, and struck out a career high 12 batters in 7.1 [...]
