Wagner Traded To Red Sox For Two Prospects

According to a Tweet from SNY news director Brad Como, Billy Wagner has indeed been traded. SNY has learned that the Mets have traded Billy Wagner to the Red Sox for 2 players to be named later. The news is also being reported on the Mets flagship radio station, 660 WFAN. I’m anxious to learn all the details and if the Mets had to kick in any cash to complete the deal. I reported earlier that [...]

Billy Wagner Invokes No Trade Clause, Will Stay With Mets

Last Friday, it was reported that Billy Wagner was claimed on waivers by the Boston Red Sox, the news was not welcomed by Sox closer, Jonathon Papelbon who thinks he has been promoted to General Manager. Papelbon’s crude rumblings aside, the Mets and Sox had until Tuesday afternoon to complete a trade. According to a report by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports,  Billy Wagner is staying with the Mets. He will invoke his no-trade clause rather than accept a [...]

Olney: Chances Wagner Is Traded Are Under 50/50

In an appearance today on ESPN’s SportsCenter, MLB Analyst, Buster Olney, discussed the potential trade between the Mets and the Red Sox involving reliever Billy Wagner. In his appearance Olney stated that the chances of a deal happening are below 50 percent. There are numerous factors that would support Olney’s claim. One of these factors is that there are some concerns regarding the health of Wagner’s surgically repaired shoulder. Prior to yesterday afternoon’s game, Wagner [...]

Red Sox Claim Billy Wagner Off Waivers

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Mets left-hander Billy Wagner has been claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox, according to two major-league sources. The Mets now have three options: They can work out a trade with the Red Sox by 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday; they can allow Wagner to depart on the claim; or they can pull Wagner back off waivers, a move that would prevent them from trading Wagner for [...]

Mets Would Be Smart To Keep Wagner… For Now

Jon Heyman is reporting that Billy Wagner has been claimed on waivers, probably by the Cubs, hopefully not the Phillies or Marlins who are also rumored to be interested. The Mets now have 3 days to either work out a trade, let him go with nothing in return, or pull him back as they did with Gary Sheffield. My advice to Omar… I say pull him back and keep him… Before all of you start jumping [...]

Wagner’s Return Not Enough As Mets Fall Short 3-2

Billy Wagner returned to the Mets to make his first appearance in the major leagues in over a year, entering to a thunderous ovation from the Flushing Faithful.  However, the Citi Field premiere of Enter Sandman did not help send the Braves to Never Never Land.  Brian McCann pulled a long home run into the Pepsi Porch off Johan Santana in the fourth inning, which proved to be the difference maker, as the Braves held [...]

Livan On a Jet Plane

Get it? Okay, anyway. According to Espn.com, the Mets have announced that Billy Wagner has been activated from the disabled list. To make room for Wagner, the Mets have released pitcher Livan Hernandez. Hernandez was 7-8 with a 5.47 ERA. Hernandez started the year off strong, but since July 3rd at Philadelphia, he really hasn’t shown the Mets much. You know, the one thing I could never stand about him was how he never seemed to care [...]

Note To The Mets: Don’t Neglect The Bullpen

With all the talk of the Mets plans for 2010 and beyond, few if any have mentioned the bullpen. As one of the lone bright spots for the team this season, the bullpen is going to need some attention next season. Currently, the Mets have two ex-All-Star setup men on their roster in Billy Wagner and J.J. Putz. Although, both have options for next season it is highly unlikely either will be brought back without [...]

Billy Wagner Placed On Waivers

Jayson Stark of ESPN is reporting the following, According to a major league source, the Mets placed Wagner on trade waivers Wednesday. That means those waivers would expire at 1 p.m. EDT Friday, hours before Wagner is scheduled to be activated and make his long-awaited return from Tommy John Surgery. It’s unlikely Wagner would be claimed, since any team claiming him would be on the hook for approximately $2.7 million of his $8.5 million salary [...]

Who Are These Doctors Anyway?

You know, I can accept the fact that the injury bug has bitten our Mets hard this season, and that freak accidents have hurt, as has being beaned in the head by opposing pitchers.  We’ve learned to accept that we have average to below-average replacements and that the season was basically over before the all-star break.  Now we’re biding our time and waiting until next year, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t [...]
