Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is back in camp after flying to New York yesterday to be examined by team doctors for what was being diagnosed as a strained intercostal muscle. Adam Rubin of ESPN New York confirmed through a second source that Murphy received a cortisone shot and that the diagnosis “was consistent” with the intercostal strain. Rubin speculates that Murphy would be sidelined for about seven to ten days before returning to regular baseball activities. [...]

Top Mets Outfield Prospect Cesar Puello Linked To PEDs

However, it should be noted that there is no proof that Puello ever actually used any form of PED. ESPN states that “Sources said the players, like those who have been named in previous Biogenesis documents, were on a list as having received performance-enhancing drugs, although the documents are not proof [...]

Projecting The Most Ideal Lineup For Mets This Season
Like every manager in the history of the game, I love to tinker with batting orders. So much can happen between now and Opening Day, but when it is below freezing it is as good a time as any to think of what Terry Collins’ lineup could be this summer. Collins is on record with Ruben Tejada in the leadoff slot, but I’m suggesting a different direction. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had limited success last season when he first arrived, but [...]

2013 Mets Projection: Johan Santana, SP
Johan Santana‘s 2012 statistics look awful at first glance. No, they are awful. His 4.85 ERA and 1.33 WHIP are both his worst since becoming a starter. That, combined with the fact that Santana missed the last two months of the season might have you down on the 33 year-old lefty. But when you look deeper, there is some reason to be optimistic that Johan Santana can bounce back, and be effective. Santana attempted something [...]

Sifting Through Some Old Mets Relics And Memories Makes Me Believe in 2013
Tucked away in the mountains of Tehachapi, Calif. rests a modest cottage. Living in that cottage are John and Jill Nelson. These are my parents. In any given room, you can find the typical conventions of any old west-style household. There are paintings of horses on every wall, candle holders made from welded horseshoes on the dining room table and small pieces from alfalfa-hay flakes scattered across the 70s-style brown carpet. If you look deep [...]

Spring Briefs: Collins Inspires Team, Turner Could Be On Way Out
Mets manager Terry Collins said the message he gave his team yesterday was that they are good enough to compete. Collins told reporters: “The ultimate message was: The one thing I don’t want any of these guys ever to think is that if we get beat, if we lose a game, it’s because we’re not supposed to win, because we’re not good enough. Because that’s not true. That’s not true. These guys are in the one [...]
