Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez Come Full Circle
Last off season, only a few hours after we learned that Jose Reyes had signed with the Miami Marlins, Sandy Alderson made some noise of his own and traded Angel Pagan to the Giants in exchange for center fielder Andres Torres and reliever Ramon Ramirez.
After already signing Andres Torres to a one-year deal, $2 million deal last month, the Giants have just agreed to a one year deal with Ramon Ramirez according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Ramirez appeared in 58 games for the Mets in 2012 and posted a 4.24 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 63.2 innings pitched. Torres meanwhile, batted .230 with a .664 OPS in 132 games for the Mets.
Pagan tested the free agent waters this Winter, but quickly agreed to re-sign with the World Champs for a four year, $40 million deal. Last season, Pagan batted .288 with 95 runs, 29 stolen bases, 38 doubles, 8 home runs and led the major leagues with 15 triples — a total that broke Willie Mays‘ franchise record.

Ws winners bringing in losers, what’s next?
Backwards, losers who WANNA WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! these guys were starting CF and one of the set up guy on the mets, but we all know they’re not built for that, so they went where they can win and best utilize their skills. what’s next?
Didn’t they both have World Series rings before they came to the Mets? Maybe they went back to Frisco for more. Pagan’s no dummy, he decided to stay and defend his ring too. Now the real question is 4/40 for Pagan or 5/75 for Bourn?
Maniac,
Curious, would you do 5 for 75 with Bourne? Me personally, I don’t think I would. I would rather do 3 years plus options but I doubt thate would get it done.
No I wouldn’t do 5/75 for Bourn or 4/60 either which is probably what he’ll end up getting. I would take him for 3/45 or lower. What I really wanted was to go after Denard Span when he was on the block and available. Younger, better.
Yeah but they didn’t pay as much for them as we did….
They didn’t have to give up a Pagan and play both those guys 3Mil per each on top of it…
Torres is making a Mil less….
Not sure what Ramirez is making but I bet it isn’t 3 Mil!
2 million, so pretty close
At some level, it p/ss’s me off but at the end of the day, i dont want Torres, Ramirez..or Pa-gone(esp at 4yrs/$40mm).. moving forward..
Good for them. That trade worked out pretty awful for us. Most of us who never understood the Pagan vilifying got drowned out with this trade. That it didn’t work out, just made me even more mad. No one knew that Ramirez would struggle as much. Torres you knew was a downgrade, but Ramirez was supposed to pick up the slack…and didn’t. But good for them for going back where they’re comfortable and for having a chance to win.
Rauch to the Marlins.
I don’t care where the flotsam and jetsam goes; I don’t.
The more unproductive bums we move out the better.
If Rauch goes to Marlins, that’s okay, too, but I think he will be better this year than last.
Acc. to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, Jon Rauch took a huge paycut with the Marlins- just 1MM compared to the approx. 3.6MM he earned with the Mets last season.
wondered why we never offered him a deal…
i guess rauch took less money to go to a winner
Who cares about two guys that were horrible on the Mets?
Not every one is built for NY. The bright lights blind plenty of folks. Just cause you can make it in San Fran, doesn’t mean you’ll conquer NY. The reverse however is much easier.
I wouldn’t be shocked if both thrived again in Frisco and I won’t be upset about it. Some players can’t handle the pressure. Pagan would never be a 40 million dollar player here.
Yes, he had a couple good seasons in Queens, but not worth 40 million. This trade went sour, but not every trade works out. Frisco got the better that time. It still pales in comparison to the Wheeler deal which has a chance to pay off for years and years.
agree with that. you guys will be happy with Wheeler for a long time. Giants fans are grateful for the Pagan trade and if Torres could contribute as an excellent defensive platoon with Blanco and Ramirez is anything close to his old self for a few years, we’ll call it even.
