Patience Has Its Price, But Striking Early Has Its Rewards
Although finding a power hitter, particularly one who could man an outfield spot and bat righthanded, was one of the Mets top priorities this offseason, the strategy of waiting the market out has proved futile. Unless upgrading the outfield was never the priority that the front office wanted us to believe it was, lets call this a failure of execution. The irony of it is that according to MLB Trade Rumors, the top available power hitter [...]

MMO Flashback: The Evolution of the Mets’ All-Time Hits Record
Although he finished his 18-year career with only 1,418 hits, an average of less than 80 hits per season, Ed Kranepool had remained the Mets’ all-time leader in hits for well over three decades. That’s “had”, as is the past tense of “has”. David Wright has now supplanted Kranepool as the team’s all-time leader with his 1,419th hit, collecting the landmark hit off Jeff Locke in the third inning of Wednesday night’s game against the [...]

Amazin Memories: Piazza’s First Game as a Met
When the Mets acquired Mike Piazza from the Florida Marlins on May 22, 1998, they didn’t just acquire one of the premier catchers in baseball. They also found the face of the franchise for the the next eight years. At the time of the trade, the Amazins were a team on the rise under Bobby Valentine. However, despite an 88-win season in 1997, the Mets lacked the sizzle (or star-power) that the crosstown rival Yankees [...]

Some Christmas Cheer From The Mets Blogospehre
Yes, even us die-hards take a break from the everyday rigors of writing about those not-always so Amazin’ Mets. Why some of us even like to poke some fun and use humor as a way to ease the pain a little. A few such bloggers did just that and are worthy of mention on this frigid eve before Christmas. Alderson Gives the Gift of Hope Those guys at the Real Dirty Mets are up to [...]

Duda’s Boots of Lead
With arguably the worst starting outfield (at the moment) in the majors, it’s hard to envision a scenario where the Mets can compete unless a variety of absurdly unlikely developments take hold. Not only is our current crop of outfielders ill-disposed to covering a larger field with unusual dimensions, they are exceptionally vulnerable to lefties. When confronted with a calamity as repulsive as this outfield, it will not only take courage but a very strong [...]

MLB News: Swisher Signs With Tribe, Ibanez To M’s, Bosox Nab Hanrahan From Bucs
Free agent Nick Swisher has agreed to a four-year, $56 million contract with the Cleveland Indians, as first reported by Mark Feinsand of the Daily News. Feinsand adds that the contract includes a vesting option for a fifth season that could bring the deal’s value to $70 million. The 32-year-old Swisher spent the last four seasons with the New York Yankees and batted .272 this year with 24 homers and 93 RBIs. The Mariners have agreed to terms with outfielder/DH Raul Ibanez on [...]

Despite Interest From Yankees, Hairston Prefers A Return To Mets
Updated by HoJo on 12/23 Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York, reports that while the New York Yankees remain interested in free agent Scott Hairston, he would prefer to return to the Mets where he believes he’d be able to log significantly more playing time. Hairston has been holding out for the Mets since the season ended, but they must be far apart on dollars or a reunion would have materialized by now. Original Post by [...]

Thoughts On The Jefry Marte For Collin Cowgill Trade
Last Tuesday, the Mets obtained outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Oakland Athletics for minor league infielder Jefry Marte. Honestly, I knew very little about Collin Cowgill and decided to do some research on him to quench my curiosity. Here is what I was able to learn about him as well as some input on Jefry Marte as well. My first stop was to Baseball America where I was hoping to learn more about what his prospect status was or [...]
