Wheeler Will Be Up Before All Star Break
A Mets person suggested to David Lennon of Newsday that top prospect Zack Wheeler will be in the Mets rotation before the All Star break. Certainly good news, and now it’s up to Zack Wheeler to make it happen. When he was last seen in Triple-A Buffalo, Wheeler made only six starts and went 2-2 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP after posting solid numbers in Binghamton. In 33 innings pitched he walked 16 and [...]

Melky Cabrera Signs With Blue Jays
Free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera has inked a two year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNdeportes.com. The deal is reportedly worth $16 million and is currently pending a physical. Melky was having a career year leading the National League batting .346 for the San Francisco Giants, before coming up positive for elevated levels of testosterone. He was given a 50-game suspension which he served during the second half and into the Giants playoff run. Due [...]

Mets Sign Brian Bixler To Minor League Contract
The Mets have signed 30 year old IF/OF Brian Bixler to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training. The Mets made the announcement via Twitter. Bixler hit .193 in 88 at-bats for the Houston Astros in 2012. He has a career batting average of .189, with 3 HR, and 14 RBI in four years with the Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Washington Nationals. This past season he appeared in 36 games for the [...]

Selig Should Void The Trade
The biggest problem I’ve had with Commissioner Bud Selig is he was an owner, but even after divesting himself of the Milwaukee Brewers, he remained an owner at heart. He’s a former owner paid by the owners, so, where do his loyalties lie? It will never happen without government intervention, but the best way for baseball to be run is have the commissioner paid equally by the owners and players association, with another percentage from [...]

MMO Fan Shot: Closing The Book On Jason Bay
For the first six years of his baseball career, Jason Bay was one of the game’s up-and-coming stars. He toiled in relative obscurity, first with the San Diego Padres and then with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where his tenacious, hard-slugging style of play caught the attention of baseball fans everywhere. After a two-season stretch with the Boston Red Sox, Bay reached the pinnacle of his career. He was able to test the free-agent market for the [...]

Mets Wouldn’t Trade Jon Niese For Alex Gordon?
John Harper of the Daily News asked a Mets source if Jon Niese would be enough to land Royals Gold Glove left fielder Alex Gordon. I was stunned to see the response he got. But would they [the Mets] be better off trading Jonathon Niese than Dickey? As a 26-year-old lefthander who is under team control at $5 million-a-year for six more seasons, including two option years, Niese may have more trade value than Dickey, [...]

The Melk Man Would Deliver
On Wednesday, I suggested the Mets should not trade one of their starting pitchers for offensive help this winter. Today, I offer an alternative: Melky Cabrera. According to reports, the Mets have not expressed interest in Cabrera to date. However, I feel they should have a change of heart and go after the controversial outfielder. Before his 50 game suspension in August for testing positive for testosterone, Cabrera was on pace to receive a multi-year [...]

Are We Really About To Trade A Reigning Cy Young Award Winner
R.A. Dickey has just won the Cy Young Award… R.A. Dickey has just done what no Mets pitcher has done since 1985… R.A. Dickey may get his award on Opening Day in a Blue Jays or Dodgers uniform, or any other team who gives Sandy Alderson whatever it is he’s looking for. If that happens, it will be weird to see another franchise celebrating Dickey’s remarkable achievement. It won’t feel the same as when Tom [...]

Which Team Is More Dysfunctional, The Mets Or Jets?
Getting ready to watch football with the NFL Red Zone, so thankfully I am not tied down to the Jets-Rams. TV football in New York is absolutely terrible without Red Zone because you’re tied into two teams each week, but I digress. I was thinking which is the most dysfunctional New York franchise, the Mets or Jets? The Jets are in the news because the Mets have faded into the woodwork until February. The biggest [...]

RA Dickey Wins Cy Young, Fans Still Torn About Trade Talks
Now that RA Dickey has won the Cy Young, it’s inevitable that the talks swirling around the Mets will be regarding whether Dickey should be traded in the coming days/weeks. David Wright’s contract talks have taken a back seat for now. Trading Dickey: Is it the right thing to do, or is it the wrong thing to do? Everyone has been presenting solid evidence to back up which side of the argument they support. Truth [...]
