Mets Arizona Fall League Recap

cesar puello

With the Arizona Fall League now at an end, here is a quick summery of our eight prospects fared while playing for the Surprise Saguaros. Pitchers  Adam Kolarek (0-0, 2.92 ERA, 12.1 IP, 19 H, 5 BB, 8 K)  – The Mets have high hopes for Kolarek who could be a future closer for the team by 2015. After a superb campaign at St. Lucie, where Kolarek struck out 70 in 57 innings pitched while walking just 21, he was promoted [...]

Mets Want A Monster Package For Dickey

dickey tips cap

Andy Martino of the Daily News reports that the Mets want a ‘monster package’ for R.A. Dickey, which is likely a few high-end prospects, major leaguers, outfielders and catching help. He cites a high-ranking MLB executive, that “if the Mets don’t get this level return, they’re probably not going to trade him.” Wow, talk about too pricey… Incredible… Honestly, I don’t mind R.A. Dickey coming back at all, in fact I prefer it. But can you [...]

Sandy Alderson And His Legacy Of Diminished Expectations

Sandy Alderson

Who can forget where we were and what we were doing on December 16, 2004? (Ok, I admit it. I didn’t know the exact date either). It was a huge day for us fans. After finishing 25 GB and under .500 for the 3rd straight year, Omar Minaya made not only a bold move but made a statement. The New York Mets—yes, OUR New York Mets—signed the top pitcher of his era: Pedro Martinez. Granted, [...]

Giancarlo Stanton Writes His Ticket Out Of Miami, Met Fans Can Only Dream

giancarlo stanton

In a post for MLB.com, Peter Gammons, Stanton fired away at team ownership, a move that will essentially hasten his exodus from South Beach. I’m certain that most of you already heard about Stanton’s first reaction to the trade when he took to Twitter and said, “Alright I’m ticked off. I do not like this at all. This is the ‘winning philosophy?” It turns out that was just the calm before the storm… Stanton, who just turned [...]

According to multiple sources, Juan Pierre has agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million contract. The 35-year-old outfielder will be making his second stint with the organization, offering veteran leadership, a tremendous work ethic and speed. Pierre appeared in 130 games with the Phillies in 2012, batting .307 with 37 stolen bases. Entering his 14th big league season, Pierre previously was with the Marlins in 2003-05. He set the franchise single-season stolen-base record of 65 in [...]

Sunday Morning Grind: The Future Has Arrived

Screenshot_2

The Mets are on a mission to upgrade their catching position and somehow figure out their outfield configuration before the ump cries “Play Ball” on Opening Day. Offensively, the Mets ranked the worst in MLB at both positions. Defensively, I’m not sure, but suffice it to say it was pretty awful. On that note, scratch Torii Hunter and Melky Cabrera off the available outfielders list, and Gerald Laird and David Ross off your catchers list. [...]

Son Of Bernie Madoff’s Accountant Commits Suicide

madoff

The son of Bernard Madoff’s longtime accountant, Dave Friehling, has committed suicide in central Ohio, authorities have reported. Jeremy Friehling, 23, was found dead at his apartment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday in Columbus, where he was a second-year student at Ohio State’s medical school, police there said. He himself pleaded guilty to securities fraud in the scandal that arose from the Madoff Ponzi scheme. According to the Associated Press, there was no indication that [...]

Alderson Draws A Line In The Sand

"I asked for Wil Myers, Salvatore Perez and Alex Gordon for the Royals for Dickey, and they said no" "I'm not sure why, it seemed like a fair offer to me"

According to Marc Carig of Newsday, Sandy Alderson is not necessarily seeking a resolution to either David Wright’s or R.A. Rickey’s contract situation right now, but would like some clarity after Thanksgiving but before the Winter Meetings. “At some point we need resolution on these discussions to be able to move on. But that time is not now,” Alderson said, according to Carig. “[But between Thanksgiving and the Winter Meetings], we need to have… a little more [...]

Mets Made Dickey A Two Year Offer

dickey

Updated 6:20 PM  Major League sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the Mets plan to offer R.A. Dickey a two-year contract extension… The New York Mets could be on the verge of a breakthrough in their negotiations with National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey. Or, maybe not. The Mets plan to offer Dickey a two-year contract extension, according to major league sources. Whether Dickey would accept such a deal remains to be seen. The [...]

Marlins Lied To Reyes

Miami Marlins v Arizona Diamondbacks - Game Two

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com is now reporting that the Miami Marlins made verbal promises to Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle that they would not be traded. They were apparently told that they were players to be counted on and not to worry about being dealt. The promises made were only verbal, as Miami has a club policy of not giving players no-trade clauses in their contracts. Those promises lasted less than one full year, as both [...]

What Will Mets Do With Wright and Dickey?

Dickey Wright

I used to love checking out those polls they frequently conduct at MetsBlog and always enjoyed reading the results. But in the last two years, the majority vote seems to mirror the same opinions of the MetsBlog team. I find their poll results being too predictable now, and I think it’s because readers have more choices with new Mets sites sprouting up all the time. We love to visit the sites we like and mostly agree [...]
