Thole, Davis, Murphy and Parnell All Eligible For Raises Via Arbitration

Murphy Ike Davis Mets Cubs 6/27/12

Last week, I speculated that Josh Thole, Bobby Parnell, Ike Davis and Daniel Murphy might each be eligible for arbitration after this season. ESPN and the Daily News are confirming that is in fact the case now, which adds a little bit more thrust to my argument below. Originally Posted on September 6 at 4:00 PM. Matt Harvey: Taking His Game To Another Level

harvey-2

With one final start slated for Matt Harvey this season, it’s a good time to evaluate what we have seen from the young fireballer in 2012. Like many speculated, he had some really great outings, and some that would be best if forgotten all together. It is expected that the Mets young righthander will have his ups and downs, but Harvey has ultimately done enough to lock down a spot in the Mets starting rotation for [...]

Collins Wants Shoppach Back, Should He Even Have A Say?

Kelly Shoppach

Before the game last night, Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters that he would like Kelly Shoppach to return to the Mets next season. According to Collins, Shoppach has a sharp defensive game and he credits him for how he’s handled the pitching staff, particularly getting them to pitch inside more. Shoppach, who turns 33 next Spring, is a career .228 hitter, but has enjoyed some moderate success since the Mets acquired him, batting .255 with [...]

Matt Harvey K’s 10 In Mets 2-0 Loss To Nats

washington-nationals-v-york-mets-20120912-172433-308

Matt Harvey had a dominant but short outing and the Mets offense apparently didn’t show up to the park in their 2-0 loss to the Nationals Matt Harvey had his good stuff tonight, but based on his high strikeout total, had himself out by the fifth inning. Harvey went five, allowing five hits and one run while walking five and striking out 10. Harvey had the Nationals hitters consistently confused, and didnt truly become unraveled [...]

The Mets And Their Home Field Disadvantage

mets sad bench

The Mets have lost five straight and dropped seven of their last eight games. The club has lost a season-high six games in a row for the third time this season and is 3-7 in its last 10 games. They are at a season high of 12 games under .500 for the season and in danger of being swept on this homestand if they don’t salvage tonight’s game. Since the All Star Break, the Mets are 19-37 including an abysmal [...]

MMO Mailbag: Will Johan Santana Have Any Trade Value This Winter?

johan santana mets dodgers 072012

Here’s a question from Peter R. who asks, Will Johan Santana have any trade value this winter? My short answer is no. The long answer is actually just more questions than it is answers. Why would a team deal for a pitcher who is owed $30 million dollars in 2013, especially one that was shelved in mid-August for the rest of the season? What could you possibly expect back in return for such a risky proposition? Why [...]

Cashman Field Is Less Than Optimal If The Mets Hook Up With Las Vegas

The sign that greets all visitors reads Cashman Stadium, but it's official name is Cashman Field.

I was compelled to do a little research this morning on the home of the Las Vegas 51′s, Cashman Field. I was motivated by a couple of comments that were left on my post yesterday in which I reported that the Mets could be hitching the Triple-A team with Las Vegas after the Oklahoma City Redhawks renewed their PDC with the Houston Astros. Scott wrote: As a 16 year resident of Las Vegas, I can’t [...]

Brooklyn Cyclones: The 2012 Season In Review

Brandon Nimmo

The 2012 Brooklyn Cyclones finished their 76-game season with a record of 45-31 – 14 games above .500. It was twelfth straight season the team has accomplished the feat, making the Cyclones one of four professional teams that have done that in the history of the game. They join the New York Yankees, the Arizona League Giants and the Elizabethton Twins. Here are a few more interesting factoids from the Cyclones’ 2012 season courtesy of Courtney Nunes [...]
