Mets Farm Report: Tapia Conquers Rome, Cyclones Edge Yankees In 12

"Bachelor Number Two, Who's Better Familia Or Harvey?"

Charlotte 10, Buffalo 8 By Connor O’Brien After two games in a row in which the Bisons only scratched out two hits, the bats finally broke through, but fell just short of beating Charlotte in a 10-8 slugfest. The Bisons have been very short-handed when it comes to starting pitching lately, so Wally Backman had to go with Garrett Olson out of the bullpen to start the game for the Bisons looking for innings. That didn’t [...]

The Curious Case Of Teddy Stankiewicz

Teddy Stankiewicz

With their second, second-round pick (75th overall) in this year’s First Year Player Draft, the Mets selected RHP Teddy Stankiewicz, an 18-year-old pitcher from Fort Worth, Texas. Stankiewicz went 12-2 with a 1.35 ERA this season, having struck out 135 batters in 93 1/3 innings. He was committed to Arkansas, one of the nation’s best baseball programs. Though disappointed, Arkansas was certain that they were going to lose Stankiewicz, who was the highest signee taken in [...]

los-angeles-dodgers-v-york-20120722-123251-823

“It’s very disappointing. We’re not happy with the way things have gone the last 10 days and we got to buckle down, get after it and get back over. We got a tough three games coming up, we got to pick ourselves up and get ready for them.”  ~  Terry Collins Despite another great outing by Niese, and a valiant rally in the ninth, Ramon Ramirez let up five runs in the 12th and the [...]

The Johan Santana Injury Farce and Why This is S.O.M. (Same Old Mets)

johan santana

As I read Terry Collins’ and Sandy Alderson’s quotes in the paper this morning regarding Johan Santana going on the disabled list, my nostrils began to flair, my face was turning red, I almost scalded myself with the cup of hot coffee that was shaking in my hand, and I finally ran to get some blood pressure medication. I’m not angry that Johan Santana is being placed on the DL. That’s just incredibly sad and [...]

Hits & Misses: Local Boys Making Noise, We Want Mike, Mets Bullpen Outperforming Rotation?

Matz hopes to return healthy sometime this season.

According to MetsBlog, since July 6, a span of 11 games, the Mets have pitched to a 5.99 ERA over 97 2/3 innings. Mets starting pitchers have pitched to a 6.93 ERA, the bullpen has pitched to a 4.42 ERA over that span. So yes, the worst bullpen in baseball is now out-performing our starting rotation. Not surprisingly, the Mets are 2-9 over those 11 games. Hey, you all know the deal… It was our starting [...]

A Look Inside The Rise And Fall of Johan Santana

johan santana mets dodgers 072012

How the mighty have fallen.  Johan Santana, whose bounceback campaign hit an unexpected high on June 1 when he threw the franchise’s first no-hitter, has not only come back to Earth, but he’s done it in a way no one could see coming. Through his first 11 starts of the season, which ended with the hitless gem, the southpaw was vintage Santana, going 3-2 with a 2.38 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 68 Ks in 68 [...]

Mets Farm Report: Harvey Pasted In Buffalo, Germen Shelled In Bingo, Fuller Shines Again For Savannah

"Alright, where are these Bisons I've heard so much about?"

Charlotte 11, Buffalo 0 By Connor O’Brien The Charlotte Knights beat the Buffalo Bisons last night by a score of 11-0. Matt Harvey took the mound looking to impress the big league club with a solid performance. Instead, Harvey had a very rough night. Harvey was decent early on, allowing only a first-inning RBI single through his first three innings. However, things really blew up in the third and fourth. Harvey lost command in the third, [...]

Mets Rally Too Little, Too Late As Dodgers Hand Them 8-5 Loss

weakest link

Another late Mets rally falls short… It’s becoming a common theme so far in the second half. Starting pitcher gets bashed, bullpen allows more runs, Mets try to catch-up, Mets run out of outs, game over. I am fully aware and can truly appreciate all of the careful thought, the endless calculating, the hours of scouting, that nerve-wracking audition, and the mind-boggling, brainstorming that led to the determination that Miguel Batista was the clear and convincing [...]
