Santana Earns First Win Of The Season As Mets Top D-Backs 4-3

Diamondbacks Mets Baseball

The Mets defeated the Diamondbacks 4-3 on Saturday as Johan Santana grinded out a hard fought win – his first since September of 2010. Santana (1-2) allowed nine hits but gave up only three runs, striking out five and walking one. He threw a season high 108 pitches and did a fantastic job of gutting out a win on a day where he didn’t have his best stuff. He never hit more than 88 mph on [...]

2012 MLB Draft: No Consensus No. 1 Pick In June

2012 mlb draft

MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo says that this year’s draft does not have a consensus number one pick. In other words there is no one stand-out talent like in year’s past when you had Gerrit Cole, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg. He believes that the Houston Astros are considering as many as seven or eight different players as they decide who they will take with their first overall pick. In a way it plays into the Mets [...]

Mets Activate Carrasco From DL, Option Valdespin to Buffalo

DIGIPIX

The Mets have activated D.J. Carrasco from the disabled list. Carrasco began the season on the DL after twisting his ankle in a Spring Training game. Carrasco is coming off of a down season in which he went 1-2 with a 6.02 ERA in 49 innings pitched. To make room for Carrasco on the roster, the Mets optioned IF/OF Jordany Valdespin to Triple-A Buffalo.

System Failure: No End In Sight For Mets Bullpen Implosions

Arizona Diamondbacks v New York Mets

In eleven save opportunities, the Mets bullpen now has five blown saves. That’s not a typo – Five blown saves to go with six saves for the season so far. Every time that bullpen gate opens, no matter who emerges from it, the odds that they will protect any size lead is a little bit better than 50/50. A revamped bullpen you say? The Mets saw fit to expend 75% of their available $14 million [...]

MMO Farm Report: Germen K’s Nine In AA Debut, Tuiasosopo Homers Twice, Pill Solid

Wolverine 2

Buffalo 9, Syracuse 0 When Syracuse’s Carlos Rivero ripped a two-out double to left center in the top of the seventh inning, it mattered little to the outcome of the game. That’s because Bisons starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner had crafted a dominant display of pitching beforehand, allowing the Bisons to build a comfortable lead they would not relinquish. Simply put, Hefner was in control. After allowing a leadoff single in the top of the first, [...]

Plate Discipline Doesn’t Mean “Don’t Swing.”

David Wright is the Mets top fantasy target this spring, but will Davis close the gap between the two?

Last night, we had a fan post on here in reaction to Bobby Ojeda’s mini rant on SNY. I have to say, I view it differently than how Ojeda made it sound, or at least how it was viewed by the fan post. Just because the Mets are looking to be disciplined at the plate, doesn’t mean they are refusing to swing the bat. The “philosophy” is meant to force pitchers to throw strikes, thus [...]

Collins Tabs Batista To Join Rotation, Will Start Tuesday Against Phillies At CBP

Miguel Batista

Prior to last night’s game Mets Manager Terry Collins announced to reporters that right-hander Miguel Batista will join the rotation and start on Tuesday against Phillies in Citizens Bank Park. Batista will try to improve on the two failed attempts to replace Mike Pelfrey by Chris Schwinden who was demoted to Baffalo before the game.   “One of the things we brought Miguel Batista in for was not just to be a bullpen guy, but if we needed a spot [...]

Bullpen Wastes A Solid Outing From Gee In 5-4 Loss To D-Backs

Arizona Diamondbacks v New York Mets

Dillon Gee pitched a strong six innings, but the bullpen failed yet again in the Mets 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Recap Dillon Gee went six strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six, walking three and hitting a batter. Gee didn’t seem to have his best command on the day, but he managed to get the anxious Dbacks hitters to swing at numerous poor pitches and relied on a [...]

MMO Fan Shot: Ojeda Comes Down Hard On Mets Approach At Plate

Since 2009, Bobby Ojeda has been the lead Mets analyst on SNY's pre and post game coverage.

SNY analyst Bobby Ojeda came down HARD on the Mets new philosophy at the plate with regard to heir approach at the plate during tonight’s Mets pre-game show. For those that missed it, Ojeda ripped into what he called “this business of taking so many pitches” that the organization has forced the players to adopt. It started like this after Carlin shifted the conversation to the struggling Mets offense: Chris Carlin: Are we starting to [...]
