3 Up & 3 Down: Rockin’ the Rockies Edition

New York Mets v Colorado Rockies

The Mets win a three game weekend series against the Rockies, taking the rubber game 6-5 in eleven innings. This was a really strange series where we pretty much saw the unexpected. The Mets scored 9 runs on Friday night, only to see the Rocks score 18! One guy hit for the cycle, another hit a grand slam pitch hit home run, certainly not your generic, run of mill series. 3 Up: Johan & Gee: [...]

Torres Back, Duda Out, Dickey and the Mets Lift-Off In Houston

Dickey

Mets Notes The Mets have activated OF Andres Torres from the 15-day disabled list and optioned Zach Lutz back to Triple-A Buffalo. Lucas Duda is out of Monday’s lineup with a suspected case of the flu, the right fielder said. Mike Baxter instead is playing right field. The Mets are 13-9 as they enter the final day of April. Last year, New York was 11-16 in the month of April. The Mets were 14-9 in April, 2010. David Wright went 2-3 with two runs scored, [...]

How ‘Bout Them Cowboys… Err Mets…

ArsOrfWCQAE1swE

After tonight’s series win against the Rockies, the Mets filed out of the clubhouse one by one dressed in western garb as they head down to Houston, Texas for the start of a three game showdown with the Astros. Here are a few pictures courtesy of the Mets. Ruben Tejada & Dillon Gee look like outlaws. Jon Niese is heading to the saloon for some whiskey.  Don’t mess with Ike Davis, the fastest gun in [...]

Series Preview: Mets @ Astros

MMO-Series-Preview 2

It wasn’t pretty, but the Mets took the necessary 2 out of 3 from Colorado. This is a road trip where anything less than 4 wins to me is a failure. They have such a tough stretch of games coming up, that they need to win this series against Houston. The Astros come into this series at 8-14, but they have a lot of young talent on this roster. Jose Altuve is a name you [...]

Thoughts On Johan…

MLB: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves

Mets ace Johan Santana received a no decision on April 24 against Miami in the Mets’ 2-1 come-from-behind victory against the Fish. Santana pitched 6.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits and recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts in his best start of the season. It was his 50th career double-digit strikeout game. Continuing to get stronger as the season wears on, Santana tossed 105 pitches in his last game, the most he has tossed [...]

Andres Torres To Be Activated From DL On Monday

Andres Torres

Outfielder Andres Torres was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run score on Saturday in what was his final rehab game for Buffalo. Torres will join the Mets in time for Monday’s game in Houston. Torres has been on the disabled list since April 6 after straining his right calf muscle. He hit .263 (5-19) with four runs scored, one double and one RBI with three stolen bases in five rehabilitation games. In last night’s 18-9 [...]

Gee Strong and Duda Homers As Mets Top Rockies 7-5

dillon gee

Recap: Dillon Gee took the hill to square off against the Rockies rookie hurler Guillermo Moscoso in the second game of the three game set in the Mile High City. Gee, coming off an awful start, came to play tonight, hurling seven frames allowing four runs (3 earned) on seven hits while punching out seven, picking up his second win of the year. Moscoso however didn’t enjoy the same success, only completing five innings while [...]

Old Time Mets: LHP Jon Matlack

1975 Topps Jon Matlack

Jon Matlack’s career record of 125-126 may be as mediocre as you can get, but Matlack was a much, much better than average major league pitcher. In fact, he was one of the very finest lefthanded pitchers ever developed by the Mets’ organization. His other career marks – 3.18 lifetime ERA (better than Steve Carlton, who was considered the best lefty of his generation), 97 complete games, and 30 shutouts attest to the fact that [...]
