The Mets win a three game weekend series against the Rockies, taking the rubber game 6-5 in eleven innings. This was a really strange series where we pretty much saw the unexpected. The Mets scored 9 runs on Friday night, only to see the Rocks score 18! One guy hit for the cycle, another hit a grand slam pitch hit home run, certainly not your generic, run of mill series.
3 Up:
- Johan & Gee: On Saturday night Dillon Gee pitched a great game, giving up only 3 earned runs in seven innings. Considering the Mets gave up 18 runs on Friday, the bullpen was in need of a rest, and Dillon’s performance allowed just that. As good as Gee was Johan was even better, going 6 innings and giving up no runs on Sunday afternoon! Sadly, Johan got a no decision in the game, and it’s looking like he’s going to be this year’s hard luck pitcher.
- Ruben Tejada: Ruben Tejada was a hitting machine this weekend, going 10 for 15 against the Rockies pitchers.
- Scott Hairston: In the weird game on Friday night, Scott Hairston hit for the cycle. Congrats to Scott on his accomplishment.
3 Down:
- 6 Errors: As we all know by now, the Mets committed six errors on Friday night. Lets just say anytime a team gives up six errors, they’re going to lose.
- Helton’s Grand Slam: On Sunday afternoon Todd Helton hit a pitch hit grand slam home run, tying the game at 4-4 and wasting Johan’s excellent start.
- A Leaky Pen: Even though the Mets won the series, the bullpen certainly made things interesting, and I’m sure Dan Warthen was eating plenty of Tums. This team needs a stud in the bullpen who can come in a shut the opposition down. I haven’t seen one yet.
It’s off to Houston where the Mets hook up with their 1962 expansion partners, the Astros. Night games Monday & Tuesday, followed by a Wednesday matinee and an off day on Thursday.Let’s Go Mets!!
