Mets Web-Dings: Ike Davis Is Ready To Make His Mark

ike davis

Here is part of a great post by Michael Friere of Macks Mets who weighs in on Ike Davis: The Mets drafted Ike with the 18th overall pick, in the first round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft out of Arizona State University. Advance billing on Ike was that he was a solid hitter, with decent amount of power and an excellent glove. Plus, Ike was left handed, which is considered advantageous for a [...]

Mets Leadoff Hitter, Is It Really A Debate?

andres-torres

Over at Mets Today Joe Janish tries to answer the question of who should be the Mets leadoff hitter now that Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan are gone. He looks at the players ability to get on base and their ability to maneuver around the base paths, and comes to the conclusion that the Mets might be best to go ths unconventional route and use Jason Bay because of the lack of other options. It is a very difficult question to answer and an even more compelling solution so [...]

MMO Fair or Foul: Boycotting The Mets In 2012

Citi field crowd fans mets

This ended up being a terrible weekend for me. What started as a routine doctor visit on Friday, ended up with me being admitted to the hospital for the umpteenth time in the last 3 years. So this is coming to you live from my hospital bed and via my Blackberry. So anyway, I read this post by Dave Searles of NJ.com yesterday morning on what has become a frequent topic of debate; boycotting the Mets. [...]

Why Are Players Avoiding The Mets Like The Plague?

thoughts

Congratulations to the Super Bowl XLVI Champion, New York Giants! What a spectacular performance by Eli Manning and the rest of Big Blue. I’m going to relish this one for a long time. :-) * * * * * * So I just read the news that Rick Ankiel signed with the Washington Nationals and I wanted to quickly get something off my chest before I forget about it in the morning. Does anyone out there [...]

The Nationals have signed Rick Ankiel to a minor league contract with a spring training invite, according to Amanda Comak of the Washington Times. Ankiel hit .236 with nine home runs and 37 RBIs in 122 appearances for the Nationals last season. The Mets were reportedly very interested in Ankiel and according to Jon Heyman, they were trying to scrape up the $1 million dollars they’d need to sign him. Andy Martino of the Daily News said the [...]

Mets Had Plenty Of Missed Opportunities In Last Quarter Century

1986 ws ray knight

Here’s an interesting quote from Rich Couthino via Twitter: For Met Fans who consider themselves “long suffering” consider since 1986 only Braves and Cards have been in more NLCS’s than Mets — Rich Coutinho (@coutinho9) February 5, 2012 Honestly, I never looked at it this way, but it still doesn’t make me feel any better and that’s mostly because I thought we were good enough to win in about ten of those 25 seasons since [...]

Mets Eye Candy: The 1962 Edition

image (3)

With the New York Mets celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2012, I’ll probably end up doing 4-5 1962 Editions of my “Mets Eye Candy” feature. Do you know the story about Hall of Fame writer Leonard Koppett during that 1962 season? While burning the midnight oil at his desk in the newsroom of the NY Post, his phone rang at two in the in morning. “I understand the Mets scored 16 runs last night,” the caller [...]
