Bryce Harper Headlines MLB’s Top 10 Outfield Prospects

bryce harper

MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo completed his final installment of his Top 10 prospects at each position and ranks the game’s top outfield prospects. 1. Bryce Harper, Nationals: Harper might play all of the 2012 season at age 19, but it would be a mistake to think that’s a reason he won’t be in Washington this year. All signs point to him getting every chance to make the Opening Day roster, and why not? Harper has already shown an [...]

LaRussa To Manage 2012 NL All Star Team

Smile

Looks like we haven’t seen the last of Tony LaRussa yet. The recently retired Cardinals skipper will serve as the manager of the National League All-Star team for the 2012 Midsummer Classic at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on July 10th. La Russa will become the second retired manager to lead an All-Star squad. Hall of Fame manager John McGraw retired following the 1932 season and managed the NL squad in the first Midsummer Classic in 1933. [...]

MMO Fair Foul: A 94 Win Season For The Mets?

fairorfoulthumb

This edition of Fair or Foul features an excerpt from SNY’s Ted Berg who posted the following on his blog Ted Quarters. Ted says that in a best case scenario the Mets could win 94 games in 2012. So here’s what I’ve got: I’m painting with very broad strokes here and doing all sorts of shoddy math, but the way I see it if absolutely everything falls right for the Mets, they could get about 33 [...]

Prince Fielder Is Heading To Motor City, Signs $214MM Deal With Tigers

Prince-Fielder

Prince Fielder has finally found a new home and it’s one that he is very familiar should be familiar with. The all-star first baseman has signed a nine year, $214MM contract to play for the Detroit Tigers, where he once roamed around by his father’s side as a 12-year old. The contract is the fourth largest deal in baseball history in terms of total dollars behind Alex Rodriguez’s two historic deals and Albert Pujols’ mega-deal with the Angels last [...]

MMO Exclusive Interview: Mets Minor League LHP Zach Dotson

Zach Dotson

I caught up to NY Mets left-handed pitching prospect, Zach Dotson the other day. I asked him how his health is, and is he ready to pitch when spring training begins next month. We discussed the health of his shoulder, his suspension last year, his pitching repertoire, and his expectations for 2012. After barely pitching over the last two seasons since being drafted, Dotson remains somewhat of a mystery to Mets fans. Perhaps in this [...]

Mets Could Bring Chris Young Back

alg_chris_young

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, confirmed that Mets GM Sandy Alderson would be interested in bringing back right-handed pitcher Chris Young under the right circumstances and most likely only on a minor league deal. Last month on a conference call with reporters, Alderson said he had recently met with Young in San Diego: “He’s the kind of guy we might re-sign under the right circumstances.” Back on December 6, Chris Young’s agent spoke to Corey Brock of MLB.com and [...]

Sickels Ranks Mets Farm System 15th

Matt Harvey

For the first time ever, John Sickels of Minor League Ball has released a formal ranking of the 30 minor league systems. He put the Mets square in the middle as the 15th best system saying this: 15) New York Mets: Solid depth in pitching, especially at the top with Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, and Jeurys Familia. It is hard to argue the Mets should be any higher than this looking at the teams ahead. Bryce Harper alone has [...]

Why Did Front Office Give Up On F-Mart?

fernando martinez

Anthony DiComo of Mets.com tackled a question on the recently waived Fernando Martinez in his mailbag feature today. Why waste a roster spot for Scott Hairston and let go of Fernando Martinez? Give F-Mart all those at-bats and actually see what he has to offer the team. He still is very young. – Lou G., Kenosha, Wis. Effectively cutting Martinez was an extremely difficult decision for the Mets, who do not like giving up on [...]

The Mets Current Market for Outfielders

IMG_3322

According to MLB Trade Rumors’s free agent tracker there are currently fifteen outfielders still available on the free agent market for the Mets to potentially bring in. If we are to go by the tweet below by Adam Rubin, and Cody Ross is off the market then that number immediately drops to fourteen and we can make that number continually shrink. Sounds like Cody Ross probably ends up with the #RedSox. Don’t think #Mets wanted [...]
