Justin Turner: “I’ll Do Whatever The Team Needs Me To Do”
Is that super-utility man Mark DeRosa on the Mets’ 2012 roster? No, just our own versatile version: Justin Turner. Turner burst onto the scene in 2011 and was an RBI machine in his first extended big league action. But even so, Turner said at the Kids’ Holiday Party that he’s not taking anything for granted in anticipation of this season. “I’m still going to go in there, just like I did last year, to win [...]

Johan Santana May Not Be Ready By Opening Day
Last night during the Mets Holiday Party, Mets GM Sandy Alderson sounded less confident than he has in the past regarding starting pitcher, Johan Santana. “We do have some question marks, of course, with Santana being one of them,” general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday at the team’s annual Christmas party. “We think he’s going to be ready, but he might not be.” Santana had surgery in September 2010 to repair a torn capsule in [...]

A Bridge To Nowhere
As you may have heard or read on this site a couple of days ago, the Mets received a $40 million dollar bridge loan to help them buy time until the sales of those $20 million dollars stakes to individual investors start materializing. It was Bank of America who kicked in the dough, and it needed approval from Bud Selig which he undoubtedly gave. I’m really getting tired of Uncle Bud’s continued efforts to keep [...]

Mets Host Annual Kids’ Holiday Party (With Video)
Amid the sadness of losing Jose Reyes to the Miami Marlins, the Mets organization spread some holiday cheer the afternoon of Dec. 13 at the team’s annual Kids’ Holiday Party in the Acela Club at Citi Field. Students from local schools performed holiday tunes, enjoyed a free lunch and received a gift from the big guy himself, Santa Claus. But hopefully the pressure of having kids sit on his lap didn’t affect Santa’s rehabbing knees, [...]

Alderson Speaks Out About Mets Financials, 2012, Wright, More…
Sandy Alderson, my god, appeared today on Fox Business to discuss a myriad of Mets financial and offseason issues. CLAMAN: Well, you say you’re in charge of looking at everything that’s on the field. David Wright’s on the field. Will you fight to keep him, at least? ALDERSON: Yes, I think David’s going to be with us for a while, so I wouldn’t worry about losing David and Jose in the same year. CLAMAN: OK. And I know [...]

Hot Stove News: Dontrelle To Phillies, Aramis To Brewers, Rowand To Marlins
A major-league source confirmed that the Phillies have agreed to a one-year deal for under $1 million dollars with Dontrelle Willis pending a physical. Willis posted a 5.00 ERA in 75 2/3 innings for Cincinnati in 2011, but the Phillies apparently saw enough to guarantee the lefthander a one-year contract for 2012 based mostly on how effective he was against left-handed batters. The D-Train’s career numbers against lefties are tremendous, holding them to a .200 [...]

Ike Davis Should Be Untouchable For The Mets!
Yes, I know the arguments, “Mets are in a rebuilding mode” and nobody should be untouchable. For the most part you would be right, not many players on this team should be untouchable. Ike Davis however does not fall into that category. If there is one player on this team that we all should be in agreement on who is untouchable it’s Issac Benjamin Davis. When the 2012 season starts Ike will be only 25 [...]

Niese Rumors Are Gaining Steam
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the trade buzz surrounding starting pitcher Jon Niese is getting louder and that at least 3 or 4 teams are currently interested in acquiring the young southpaw from the Mets. “If the package is right, the Mets will deal him,” writes Heyman. The Mets are believed to be looking for a young pitcher (like Niese?) and a catching prospect in return. If the Mets have a price established for Niese, it [...]

Paulino and Baxter Cut By The Mets
Last night, the Mets non-tendered catcher Ronny Paulino and outfielder Mike Baxter essentially making them free agents. The team’s 40-man roster now stands at 38. Mike Pelfrey, Manny Acosta, Ramon Ramirez and Andres Torres were each tendered contracts and offered salary arbitration. The team has yet to officially announce the signings of Jon Rauch and Frank Francisco, both of whom will need to be added to the 40-man roster within the next few days. Original Post 12/12 Tonight is the deadline for teams to decide whether they intend [...]
