Mets Struggling for Cash, Borrow Another $40 Million
According to Richard Sandomir of the New York Times, the Mets recently borrowed another $40 million dollars as a “bridge loan” meant to keep the team afloat as they try to raise money through the sale of minority shares in the team. People familiar with the team’s situation have said the owners had firm commitments from at least seven investors interested in buying a small share of the team for $20 million apiece. Still, until all are [...]

Mets Sign A Couple Of Minor Leaguers, Claim Pirates RHP Off Waivers
The Mets have signed left-handed pitcher Garrett Olson and catcher Lucas May to minor league contracts and claimed right-hander Jeremy Hefner off waivers from Pittsburgh. Mets.com has the 411 on them: Hefner, 25, posted a 9-7 record and a 4.98 ERA for San Diego’s Triple-A Tucson affiliate last season, ranking sixth in the Pacific Coast League with 120 strikeouts in 157 1/3 innings. The Pirates scooped up Hefner after the Padres designated him for assignment [...]

Braun’s Failed Test Revealed Synthetic Testosterone
The positive result was triggered by elevated levels of testosterone in Braun’s system, the sources told “Outside the Lines.” A subsequent, more comprehensive test revealed the testosterone was synthetic — not produced by Braun’s body. Every individual naturally produces testosterone and a substance called epitestosterone, typically at a ratio of 1-to-1. In Major League Baseball, if the ratio comes in at 4-to-1 or higher during testing, a player is deemed to have tested positive. The [...]

The Mets’ Great Depression Era
What is it about the last ten years of Mets baseball that makes so many Met fans resistant to change it? What is so extraordinary about the last decade that make so many reluctant to let it go? I keep hearing and reading that these same fans who are opposed to change, are only interested in winning and yet they want to hold tight to years of losing and ineptitude. Why? I would think if these fans [...]

MMO Mets Top 20 Prospects – #4 Jenrry Mejia, RHP
When the Mets signed RHP Jenrry Mejia as an IFA out of the Dominican Republic, in 2007, they knew they were getting a diminutive 17-year-old, with an electric fastball. He was brought along slowly with his innings pitched, so as not to damage this tender young thoroughbred. He needed to be babied, while his body filled out, not rushed as was the custom for the Tony Bernazard led Mets minor league system of those days. [...]

What Do The Mets Do When The Young Guns Are Ready?
Right now as presently constituted the Mets starting rotation is fairly solid. Santana, Dickey, Pelfrey, Niese and Gee are a decent 1-5, but the question to me is, what do you do when the young guns are ready? The Mets initially wanted to retain Capuano, but that became out of the question when he wanted a two year deal and the Mets were only willing to go one. The plan was to use him as a stop [...]

Blue Jays Like Niese, Could Be Great Trade Partner
Last week during the baseball’s Winter Meeting’s news surfaced that the Mets were guaging interest in Jon Niese. At a time when players like Gio Gonzalez are being heavily sought after in a weak LHP market, Niese could prove valuable. One of the teams believed to be interested is the Toronto Blue Jays. And why wouldn’t they be? They’ve got ton’s of competition in a strong AL East. A LHP like Niese to fit behind [...]

Meet The Newest Met, Andres Torres
Here’s a pretty cool video of the player who will be patrolling centerfield for the Mets in 2012, Andres Torres. I believe fans are going to love this guy. Nobody will mistake Torres for Carlos Beltran, but defensively he will get the job done better than most, and if he returns to his 2010 levels offensively, that Pagan trade looks like grand larceny.
