What’s So Funny?
I came across this post on Amazin Avenue by Chris McShane, which actually reflects perfectly the overriding sentiment on Twitter immediately after it was announced the the Phillies agreed to a contract with closer Jonathan Papelbon to a four-year deal. He writes: The good news out of Philadelphia is that the Phillies have signed Jonathan Papelbon to a four-year contract worth approximately $50 million, and there’s a vesting option for a fifth year. It’s a laughable contract, one that seems typical of [...]

Update by Joe D. Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo released a statement this morning after speaking with catcher Wilson Ramos, who was rescued from abductors last night in Venezuela: “I am happy to announce that I have spoken directly with Wilson and he assures me he is unharmed but eager to be reunited with his family,” Rizzo said. “He asked me to thank all who played a role in his rescue, and all those who kept [...]

Would You Trade Wright If Reyes Goes?
With the news that Jose Reyes and the Marlins are getting closer and closer to reaching a deal, it may become time to seriously consider what life for the New York Mets will be like without Jose Reyes. It is highly unlikely that Reyes or any other big name free agent will sign until the new CBA is in place, but the two sides could easily put together a deal that is just waiting to [...]

Reyes Leaning Toward Marlins, But Wants To See More Offers
As Jorge Sedano, a contributor for the Miami Herald, first reported via Twitter that a team source told him that Jose Reyes to the Miami Marlins is “almost a done deal.” The news quickly gained steam and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, then reported that the Marlins have made significant offers to both Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Albert Pujols. Yesterday, team owner Jeffrey Loria announced during a team ceremony, “This is an exciting moment in the history of the Marlins. The [...]

Mets Notes: Mets Assign Evans and Pridie To Buffalo, Ike Davis Feeling Good
The Mets have outrighted first baseman Nick Evans and outfielder Jason Pridie to Triple-A Buffalo. Both players have officially cleared waivers and have been removed from the Mets’ 40-man roster. Each player has the right to declare free agency, but both are expected to accept their assignments. Evans, now 25, is stuck behind Ike Davis at first base and Daniel Murphy on the bench. He has never gotten a full chance to prove he belongs and [...]

Marlins Make Significant Offer To Reyes
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Marlins have made significant offers to both Jose Reyes and Albert Pujols. Anyway, so maybe I was wrong… So sue me… That said, significant doesn’t sound like the three-year deal a Mets official suggested on Wednesday night., so nobody’s perfect. Original Post 10:00 AM Last night, Jorge Sedano, a contributor for the Miami Herald said via Twitter that a team source told him that Jose Reyes to the Miami [...]

Phillies To Sign Jonathan Papelbon
According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, the Phillies have agreed to terms with closer Jonathan Papelbon on a 4-year deal in the $50 million ballpark, pending a physical. The Phillies were close to re-signing their former closer Ryan Madson to a rumored 4-year $44 million deal, but negotiations fell through and Amaro Jr. went with Papelbon instead. Papelbon sported a 2.94 ERA with a 0.933 WHIP while recording 31 saves of 34 opportunities in the Redsox disheartening 2011 [...]
