Relive The Defining Moment Of 1986
Check out this great video of Game 6 featuring commentary by Vin Scully and Keith Hernandez with a wonderful backdrop of Billy Joel’s “Miami 2017″ playing in the background. Good stuff.

As The Game Evolves, So Do The Fans
I was 4 years old when the 1986 Mets won the World Series. My memories of that team are re-created by old school videos of myself with my siblings and cousins cheering “Lets Go Mets… YEAH!” at the dinner table for my sister’s 1st birthday party. The earliest Halloween memory I have is of my mother sewing myself and my 2 older brothers Mets uniforms for us. My oldest brother was Gary Carter, next oldest [...]

A Look Back At Minaya As He Readies To Interview For Angels GM Job
Good read by Marc Normandiny of Baseball Prospectus who looks back at how much things have changed in just one year since Omar Minaya was replaced. If you had to script an end to the Omar Minaya era in Queens, you couldn’t have outdone reality: Oliver Perez, the $12 million-a-year albatross in the Mets’ rotation, pitching for the first time in a month on the last day of the season, promptly walked three straight batters to send the [...]

Gorski Named Class A Advanced Top Starting Pitcher.
Darin Gorski has been selected as the 2011 Top Starting Pitcher in Class A Advanced. The 2009 seventh-rounder of the Mets not only established a personal best by winning 11 games for St. Lucie, he also tossed three complete games and was selected to the Florida State League All-Star team. Gorski was 11-3 as a starter, with a 1.98 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. In 138 innings pitched, the young left-hander struck out 140 batters while [...]

Morning Grind: How Does Dan Warthen Still Have A Job?
For the past four years, Dan Warthen has been at the reins for the pitching staff of the New York Mets…. and that needs to change. Despite inconsistencies in performance nearly every season, Warthen still remains the longest tenured man on the Mets coaching staff. John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey, Livan Hernandez, Tim Redding; the list of failed Mets under Dan Warthen have just continued to mount. It took him nearly two months to [...]

MLB Diamond Notes: October 24, 2011
Lester Admits to Drinking in Clubhouse. With reports swirling around about the behavior of the Red Sox pitching staff in September, Jon Lester decided to come out and set the story straight. He admitted that he, Josh Beckett, and John Lackey did in fact drink in the clubhouse during games that they weren’t pitching. However, all of the pitchers, including former manager, Terry Francona, said that the alcohol wasn’t in the dugout, contrary to reports. [...]

MMO Top 20 Mets Prospects – #18 Akeel Morris, RHP
Welcome to the third installment of the official MMO 2012 Mets Top 20 Prospects list, featuring RHP Akeel Morris of the Kingsport Mets, at #18. When the Mets made Morris their 10th round pick in the 2010 draft, they were drafting a player based on pure potential. Although raw as a pitcher, the power and talent were clearly there. The only reason he was still available in the 10th round, was similar as to the reason the [...]

Real Baseball Fans Are Watching… Just Not Enough Of Them
The ratings for this World Series, which has been compelling, are down but should pick up by Game 6, which is a certainty. I’m betting on a Game 7, the game’s ultimate gem. But, that’s not enough for Maj0r League Baseball because the East Coast giants aren’t involved. With MLB’s penchant for panic and knee jerk reaction, I am beginning to wonder what the response will be. Tinkering has already done damage to the credibility of [...]

MMO Exclusive Interview: Mets 2011 First Rounder, RHP Michael Fulmer
Last June, the Mets selected RHP Michael Fulmer with the 44th overall pick in the MLB Draft. He was the supplemental first-round pick for the Yankees’ signing of Pedro Feliciano. Fulmer, 18, went 10-2 with a 0.72 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 68 innings for Deer Creek High School in his hometown of Edmond, OK. He was honored with the Ferguson Jenkins Award this year, presented to the top five high school baseball players in Oklahoma. Michael [...]

Hey, Kids! How Do You Like The World Zzzzeries?
Despite the “Hey, Kids!” in the title, I’m going to start this post by asking a question to our older readers. Tell me, my friends. Do you remember when you were in school and you rushed home every October to watch a World Series game at home? How about the times when your teacher would occasionally bring a TV or radio into the classroom so that you could watch or listen to the game in [...]

MMO Exclusive Interview With Mets Prospect, RHP Akeel Morris
I was able to interview Akeel last week and he was nice enough to answer some questions for our readers. This is what he had to say: Petey: First of all Akeel, congratulations on a terrific season in 2011. Your development over the last two seasons has been fun to watch and you have been making great progress. Thank you so much for sharing a little of your time. The readers at Mets Merized Online will [...]
