Jesse Orosco’s Glove Has Been Found!
So do you think Jesse Orosco looks happy in the photograph to the left? Just wait until he finds out that we located his glove! Then he’ll experience joy like he’s never felt before! You know the glove we’re talking about. It’s the one Orosco threw up in the air triumphantly after he struck out Marty Barrett of the Red Sox to end the 1986 World Series. Well, where exactly did that glove go after [...]

Hot Stove Report: Pelfrey, Nathan, Shields, Darvish Updates
Joe Nathan RP - The Twins announced that they’ve declined the club option for $12.5MM on reliever Joe Nathan and will pay him a $2MM buyout instead. Nathan, who has been a rock solid closer the Twins, returned from 2010 Tommy John surgery this season and posted a 4.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 48 appearances. Obviously, Nathan would seem like the perfect fit for us as he’s unlikely to get more than a one-year deal, and [...]

Mets Name Tom Goodwin First Base Coach
The New York Mets today announced Tom Goodwin as first base coach. Goodwin, 43, finished his fourth year with the Boston Red Sox organization last season and his third as the organization’s Minor League Outfield and Base Running Coordinator. He coached Lowell (A) of the New York-Penn League in 2008, where the Spinners finished first with a 40-33 record. Goodwin also managed the Lewisville Lizards of the independent Continental Baseball League in 2007. Originally drafted [...]

Did Mets Dodge A Bullet By Signing Bay Instead Of Lackey?
Short answer? No. On Monday, Joe McDonald of ESPN, reported that Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey will miss most or all of the 2012 season after deciding to undergo Tommy John surgery on his ailing elbow. The elbow has been an issue for Lackey since the spring, but he and the team decided that some rest and rehab would improve his condition. It didn’t. Instead it resulted in one of the worst performances by [...]

This Day In MLB History…
October 26th, 1940: Tigers’ slugging left fielder Hank Greenberg (.340, 41, 150) is named the American League’s Most Valuable Player with Indian hurler Bob Feller (27-11- 2.61) finishing second. Having won the award in 1935 as a first baseman, ‘Hammerin’ Hank’ becomes the first player to win another MVP playing a different position. Like most avid baseball fans, I’m familiar with who Hank Greenberg is and that he played the majority of his career for [...]

The Most Tradeable Mets?
There are three ways for a team to build: free agency, drafting and trading. With a stated budget of just over $100 million, Sandy Alderson’s free-agent options are limited, especially if he dives into the deep end of the Jose Reyes pool. He’ll be looking to plug holes in the bullpen and rotation with middle-tier talent. Cheap bench players are always available. There is potential in the minor league system, but it is the lower [...]

Kicking The Tires On Roy Oswalt and Brad Lidge
On Monday, the Phillies officially declined the 2012 options for starter Roy Oswalt and reliever Brad Lidge. Neither player are totally out of the picture yet as GM Ruben Amaro did say he would keep in tough with agents for both players and one or both could be brought back next season at a much reduced price. Oswalt was set to earn $16MM and was bought out for $2MM, while Lidge received a $1.5MM buyout instead of a $12.5MM [...]

The Mets announced that Daniel Murphy, Ike Davis, Taylor Buchholz and Johan Santana have been reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and added to the Mets 40-man roster which now stands at 40. The following players are all Rule 5 eligible and must be added to the 40-man roster to protect them from being selected during the Rule 5 Draft that takes place during the Winter Meetings this Winter in Dallas. Triple-A: Mark Cohoon, Jose De La Torre, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Dylan Owen, Raul Reyes [...]

A Night To Remember (or #BlameBucker /sarcasm)
Today is the 25th anniversary of a gigantic moment in Mets history, and that’s the celebration of Game Six. Whether you were alive, a child, a baby, an adult, not even born yet, chances are an elder has sat you down and either played the last inning of the game or has told them the story verbatim. I like to say that Mets fans are into the history of the team like no other fan [...]

Oh, What A Night – October 25, 1986
Wow, I can’t believe it’s been 25 years… I was at home that night watching the game with my family. Me and my dad were the only two that were mentally locked and loaded – the rest of my family were die-hard Yankee fans. Nobody ever said it would be easy… Lets not quibble, fast forward to the top of tenth… After that Dave Henderson home run, I gotta tell ya, my heart sunk to [...]

A Look At “Unbreakable” Records: Barry Bonds’ Seven MVP Awards.
Being labeled as being the most valuable in any aspect of life is a pretty special occurrence. It’s not every day that you or I get an honor like that, and the same goes for professional sports. There have been plenty of players in Major League Baseball that have extraordinary careers and get elected to the Hall of Fame, yet either fail to win an MVP award or possibly just win one. When a player [...]
