Yu Darvish over Jose Reyes?
This offseason the expectation is that Japan’s Nippon Ham Fighters will post Yu Darvish. All 30 MLB teams will have the chance to submit bids for his services. Ever since Darvish name really became well known in America scouts have been raving about his talents. I’ve heard people say he could very well be one of the best pitchers in the world. The Mets, like every other MLB team, have had scouts in Japan watching [...]

No Thanks To C.J.
As I slowly get myself back into the mix here at MMO, I’m starting to realize there is an absolutely ridiculous campaign going on for the Mets to pursue C.J. Wilson in free agency. I think what bothers me the most about where our fan base is right now is the love affair with doing things over and over again after they have proven to not work. What exactly has C.J. Wilson done in his [...]

From Left Field: Who Are You Rooting For This Postseason?
Well, as we all know, our beloved New York Mets have missed the playoffs for the fifth straight season. I’m not sure about many of you, but even with the Mets done for the year, I still watch a ton of postseason baseball. There have been some great games so far, and it’s looking like the postseason will be even more exciting in the championship round. So basically, all this fluff leads me to the [...]

The big right-hander started out in St. Lucie and went 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 76 innings and struck out a whopping 92 batters in his very first taste of professional baseball. [...]

The Arizona Fall League starts it’s 2011 season today, and the Mets have changed their minds on several player assignments to their affiliated team the Peoria Javelinas. They have assigned outfielder Juan Lagares, third-baseman Jefry Marte, and shortstop Wilfredo Tovar, as was previously announced. The Mets have also sent to Arizona, catcher Juan Centeno who spent the 2011 season backing up Francisco Pena at St. Lucie. For the year, the lefty hitting Centeno hit .318, in 157 AB’s [...]

Should The Mets Sign C.J. Wilson Instead Of Jose Reyes?
Looking over the stats, the Mets had one of the better offensive clubs in the National League, but also put together just about the worst pitching staff. With everyone speculating every which way to acquire pitching while re-signing Jose Reyes, I say: If the Mets really need pitching THAT badly -which they do-, why not let Reyes walk and sign C.J. Wilson instead? The Mets managed to finish sixth in the National League in runs scored with 718 in 2011. To put that figure into perspective, [...]

As Brewers Take 2-0 Lead In NLDS, GM Melvin Comes Down Hard On Sabermetrics
As the Brewers find themselves with a 2-0 lead in the NLDS and on the verge of advancing to the NLCS, consider these comments General Manager Doug Melvin made two weeks ago regarding sabermetrics. “I think there’s a point where people are looking to find the new stat. It’s like going into a science lab and looking for the new experiment. I don’t think there’s any perfect model that you can find based on strictly [...]
