Mets TV Viewership Drops 19.3% In 2011

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, reported yesterday that the New York Mets lost an average of 39,000 viewers per game in 2011 a drop of 19.3 percent from 2010 levels. He cited a report in Sports Business Journal that said it was the third largest drop in TV viewership according to their report. In spite of that gloomy news, the Mets still ranked fourth in Major League Baseball with an average of 163,000 homes tuned [...]

Mets Gambling With Dynamic Pricing

Desperate times call for desperate measures and that’s what the Mets are doing with their 2012 ticket plans. Attendance was down for a third straight season in 2011, the fifth straight year they didn’t reach the playoffs. With the team in a financially precarious situation, they have no alternative is this stressful economy but to lower costs of season tickets and single-game tickets. The majority of Season Ticket Holders will pay less for their seats [...]

Happy 25th Anniversary, Mookie… BTW, You’re Fired!

As we reported yesterday, fan favorite Mookie Wilson was fired as the first base coach on Wednesday by Sandy Alderson who does plan to reassign him to another job in the organization. Mookie, of course, is one of the most beloved and most popular Mets players in franchise history, but the timing of his dismissal couldn’t have been worse. It was 25 years ago this month, that Mookie Wilson hit the fabled ground ball that [...]

Enough Already, Reyes Should Be The Guy The Mets Sign

This week, I read two interesting posts on MMO, one from my good friend and colleague Clayton Collier asking “Is C.J. Wilson A Better Signing Than Jose Reyes“, the other from my good colleague Ben Yoel, who asked “Should the Mets sign Yu Darvish over Jose Reyes“.  Both articles were very interesting.  However, in all seriousness, Jose Reyes should be the guy the Mets sign because if they don’t, then there will be a negative effect [...]

Trade Target: Jesus Flores

Jesus Flores

One player that Sandy Alderson should target this winter is Washington Nationals catcher, and former Met farmhand, Jesus Flores. The Nationals are unbelievably deep behind the plate not only in the majors, where Wilson Ramos is a budding star, but also in the minors where they are stocked with catching talent at nearly every level. The Nat’s have in-house options at the back-stop position for years to come with such prospects as: Slugger and top [...]

My Question To Mets Executive Vice President, Dave Howard

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in a conference call with Mets Executive Vice President of Business Operations, Dave Howard. I was joined by Matt Cerrone, Ed Marcus, Shannon Shark and other notable Mets bloggers. There’s a link to the entire transcript at the end of this post. I knew going in that the call was basically to discuss the new dynamic pricing the Mets announced on Tuesday as well as the new rescaled ticket [...]

Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down: Mike Pelfrey

What is Mike Pelfrey? Is Mike the guy who won 15 games for us in 2010?  Is he the guy who we saw being anointed as our “ace” for 2011, only to end the season as essentially our number 5 starter?  Is he somewhere in between both of the prior questions?  It is quite simply one of the biggest questions the Mets front office has to answer this off season. 2011 was not the season we expected from Pelfrey.  Since [...]

MMO Mailbag: Should We Target Carlos Beltran?

The Mets are in need of a center fielder. They should just sign Carlos Beltran. He won’t cost that much because he is 34. Sign him for two years and that will solve they’re problems. What do you think? –Jacob Chalif There are many ways to go about answering this question and many things that need to be considered. First off, there’s a little worry about Carlos Beltran’s ability to handle CF. Remember, Beltran played [...]

Yu Darvish over Jose Reyes?

This offseason the expectation is that Japan’s Nippon Ham Fighters will post Yu Darvish. All 30 MLB teams will have the chance to submit bids for his services. Ever since Darvish name really became well known in America scouts have been raving about his talents. I’ve heard people say he could very well be one of the best pitchers in the world. The Mets, like every other MLB team, have had scouts in Japan watching [...]
