On Keeping Reyes and Wright
Last night, Jose Reyes regained the NL lead in the batting race with three hits to raise his average to .333 for the season. Ryan Braun is in second place with a .331 average. This is getting very interesting and will go down to the wire. Reyes admitted that he can still feel his hamstring barking and that he has scaled back on stealing bases so he can remain on the field and avoid a third DL stint. [...]

Jason Bay: Too Little, Too Late
Quite frankly, I’m a little sick and tired of the free ride Jason Bay has gotten this year from a New York media that loves to pick and choose who gets blasted in this town, and who doesn’t. I regret the day we signed Jason Bay, and I’m not going to be swayed now simply because he’s finally hitting some meaningless home runs and collecting some meaningless RBI’s in the remaining meaningless games of the 2011 season. Am I [...]

Are Clutch Performances And Players A Myth?
A recent exchange on Twitter between me and a couple of other Mets bloggers, reminds me of why there is such a great divide between the sabermetric crowd and for lack of a better term, the traditionalists, or the old-school crowd if you will. In my opinion, the cause for the divide isn’t really the stats one employs to evaluate the performance value of any one player, but it’s more borne out of some stark [...]

Gee Strong, But Offense Can’t Come Through In Mets 3-2 Loss
Dillon Gee had another good outing, but the bullpen struggled late and the Mets stranded 17 runners in their 3-2 loss to the Nationals. Game Notes Dillon Gee had another outing just short of quality, going five and two-third innings, giving up two runs on six hits, walking two and striking out five. Gee was strong for his whole outing, minus the sixth inning when he was hit hard for both of his runs. Gee [...]

Savannah Wins! Series Tied At One
Luis Nieves hit a solo HR in the top of the 7th, and Aderlin Rodriguez crushed a two-run job in the 8th, to ice the game en route to a 7-3 Savannah win in Game Two of their championship series with Greensboro. Right-hander Yohan Almonte, pitching in relief of starter Gonzalez Germen, picked up the win with 5 scoreless innings after Germen was ineffective. Almonte gave up 4 hits, 0 runs, struck out 5 and walked 2. [...]

If At “First” You Don’t Succeed…Get Depth
There’s an old saying related to baseball that, “If at first you don’t succeed, try the outfield.” But if the Mets march to the beat of their own drummer, they changed that philosophy from the “outfield” to “first base.” John Olerud leaves as a free agent, no problem! Throw Todd Zeile there. Mo Vaughn hasn’t played in a few years and was an American League DH at his most feared. Hey, I have an idea: [...]

The Last Word On Hat-Gate, Hopefully…
Just a little tidying up on the 9/11 hat controversy as both sides (the Mets and MLB) do some damage control for appearances sake. New York Post A red-faced Bud Selig called the Mets on Sunday night, the commissioner of baseball irate that the organization had thrown his office “under the bus” in divulging MLB was responsible for the decision that banned players from wearing caps honoring emergency services workers during the 9/11 game at [...]

MMO Take Five with MetsBlog’s Brian Erni
MetsBlog – Brian Erni For this weeks edition of MMO Take Five, I spoke with my good friend Brian Erni, from MetsBlog, and asked him about several hot Mets topics this week including Mike Pelfrey, Bobby Parnell, etc. Please enjoy. Brandon Butler: Jason Bay is contributing to the team with his excellent hitting over the past week and a half. In his last 10 games, Bay is hitting .353, with 3 HR’s, and 12 RBI’s. [...]

Star Wars Night – Mets Pics
Last night, the Mets teamed up with Lucasfilm Ltd. to host the first Star Wars Night at Citi Field. A portion of every ticket sold was donated to “Stand Up To Cancer”. I find your lack of clutch hits disturbing. Laugh it up, fuzz-ball! Guards, take him away and delete his Twitter account. Don’t forget Star Wars on Blu-Ray goes on sale Friday! :-)
