Who May Go In August?

With the non-waiver trade deadline passed and the Mets fading into obscurity thanks to mental mistakes and shoddy defense over the past week, one may begin to think where the Mets go from here or, more importantly, who goes. There are moves that could be made through waivers and here are several players that could be “traded”. Jason Isringhausen - Let me get this out of the way, I have always respected Izzy and always will.  He [...]

Quote: Matt Harvey Will Be The Next Ace Of The Mets In 2013

Last night, Mets pitching prospect Matt Harvey hurled five scoreless innings and combined on a three-hit shutout as Binghamton beat Altoona 3-0. In his last two starts, Harvey has looked as dominating as he was in Single-A St. Lucie. In 12 innings pitched he has allowed just one earned run on seven hits, while striking out 14 batters and walking only three. Batters have been held to a .170 batting average. He has allowed three [...]

Should Johan Santana Return to the Majors this Year?

It has been reported that New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana had undergone an examination that revealed that he was suffering fatigue in his surgically repaired left shoulder. Santana will not resume throwing until his symptoms subside. However, Santana will continue to exercise and do some other baseball activities. Everything else during the exam was deemed to be normal by doctors at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Santana had made a rehab start on July [...]

The Best Owner Ever

Today, I’m going to stray from my usual 3 Up & 3 Down to write an entry that has been kicking around in my head for quite sometime now. This entry is about the first owner of the New York Mets, Mrs. Joan Whitney Payson. One SNY feature, the only one I consider to be worth watching, is Mets Yearbook. In one particular episode, the year was 1963, they showed the final game at the [...]

Savannah Sand Gnats – Team Report – Stretch Run Edition

With a little over a month to go in the Savannah Sand Gnats season, the Mets affiliate in the low A, South Atlantic League, find themselves solidly in first place in the Southern Division. As first half winners of the division, they are guaranteed a playoff berth, and they have a 3.0 game lead in the second half standings as well. Their overall record this season stands at 63-44 for a .589 winning percentage. As [...]

Nothing Pretty at Citi

When the Wilpons decided they were going to tear down Shea Stadium and build Citi Field, it can probably be assumed that they wanted a stadium that would provide their team an advantage.   Well, playing at home this season has been nothing short of a disadvantage for the Mets. So far this season, the Mets are 22-28 at home and 33-27 on the road.  For a team that entered August with a fighting chance at [...]

A Paean To Pitchers

I realize that most pitchers have checkered careers and most just want to be on the mound for a while and then leave it all to the 7th inning pitcher, the 8th inning pitcher and the Closer – if you’ve got one. But every once in a while a real Pitcher – shows up and puts the others to shame. Johan Santana is such a pitcher – not quite in the Seaver mode – who [...]

A-Rod Implicated In Illegal Poker Ring, Could Face Long Suspension

According to a breaking news report on ESPN.com, Major League Baseball is taking “very seriously” the allegations that Alex Rodriguez took part in some illegal, underground poker games, one of which reportedly turned violent, and he could face suspension if his participation in the games is confirmed. The allegations, first published by RadarOnline.com, are that the New York Yankees third baseman played in at least two of the games, one of which took place at [...]

Look Ahead: Spending $ May Not Work

As every game still does count, its difficult to not think about the future of the Mets. I’m confident that Alderson is concentrating on the farm system enough, but I am soon looking to see what he can do to make the 2012 Mets a competitive team. Don’t forget there is a CHANCE an extra wildcard team is added. This makes things pretty interesting (even though I’m not in favor of it happening). I think [...]

After Trimming Some Fat Off The Payroll, What’s Left For Alderson To Play With?

When the first pitch was thrown on opening day of the 2011 season, the Mets payroll sat at $142 Million.  Due to that number Alderson was not able to do much this past off season.  That is all going to change with all of the contracts expiring at the end of this season. With the recent trade of Francisico Rodriguez, Sandy Alderson has assured himself the ability to make a substantial offer to Reyes among other things. [...]
