Collins, Reyes, Einhorn And The Mets

In the midst of chaos, we have calm – while the newspapers are screaming about the Mets team, they are quietly learning how to work together, and they are listening to their manager, Terry Collins. This is the best Mets team in years because of him – he puts his players first and they know it. Did you know that he speaks to each of his players every day? You couldn’t have a better manager [...]

2011 Draft Update: Mets Top Pick Brandon Nimmo Wants $2.5 Million

As my colleague HoJo wrote last week in this post, the New York Mets announced that they have signed 12 draft picks from the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, including the club’s second round selection right handed pitcher Cory Mazzoni from North Carolina State University.  According to Jim Callis of Baseball America, the Mets signed Mazzoni for $437,500 which is $77,000 lower than the slot guideline of $514,800. Callis added that sometimes players often cut deals [...]

Collins Could Move A Suddenly Hot Jason Bay Up In Order

Last night, struggling leftfielder Jason Bay homered for the first time since May 13 in the sixth, breaking a string of 104 at-bats without one. Bay also hadn’t had an extra-base hit since May 20, a stretch of 89 at-bats. It was a great night for Bay who also blasted a triple off the wall, and had a single and a walk in his best game of the season. He also made several nice catches in left. [...]

Mets Promote Top Prospect Matt Harvey to Double-A

The Mets have promoted 2010 first-round pick Matt Harvey and fifth-round pick Matt den Dekker from Class-A St. Lucie to Double-A Binghamton. Harvey, the seventh overall pick in last June’s First-Year Player Draft, was 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 14 starts for St. Lucie. After following a sensational start to his pro career with a rocky month of May, Harvey completed his Florida assignment with a 3-0 record, 1.55 ERA, 40 strikeouts and seven [...]

Mets Farm Report: June 21st, 2011

Buffalo Bisons 9 – Durham Bulls 1 Chris Schwinden worked with a lead the whole game and pitched exactly how any manager wants a pitcher in that position to pitch. He was pretty efficient with his pitchers and threw 66% strikes. He could have come out for the 7th inning if needed (just 92 pitches), but the game was well in hand at that point so the bullpen took over after Schwinden gave up just [...]

Mets Must Trade Reyes? Says Who?

Just got a chuckle out of an article I just read by some guy called Rob Parker of ESPN New York. Our friend (not really), writes that because the Mets have been rebuffed by Jose Reyes, they have just one option; trade him. If the Mets weren’t sure what to do with Reyes — trade him or try to re-sign him — it should be crystal clear now. The Mets must trade Reyes, their All-Star shortstop, for the best [...]

Gee & Co. Smashed, Mets Lose 7-3

Dillon Gee

Dillon Gee had his worst major league outing, and the bullpen didn’t fare much better as the Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics, 7-2 Game Notes Dillon Gee had a horrible outing, and it isn’t shown by the basic stats. Dillon Gee allowed four runs on three hits, striking out one but walking SIX. Gee walked in a run, and just got burned by an inability to put batters away. With the bases loaded in [...]

The Jose Reyes Chessmatch

Update June 21, 2011 5:30 PM According to Michael Baron over at MetsBlog.com,  Sandy Alderson spoke at CitiField today with reporters and according to SNY producer Matt Dunn, he said he reached out to the agents of Jose Reyes recently, but were told he will not negotiate a new contract until after the season.  I find this interesting considering the story of Reyes having spoken to Scott Boras in some capacity was brought to mention by the [...]
