Cashman Not Interested In Reyes
If your palms get sweaty and your stomach gets nauseous at the thought of Jose Reyes in Yankees pinstripes, you can breathe easier now. According to this post in The Sporting News, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told the New York Daily News that is “just not going to happen.” “We have an everyday shortstop in Derek Jeter,” Cashman said. “And I think we have an everyday shortstop that would be playing for [...]

Mets Farm Report: June 22nd, 2011
Buffalo Bisons 3 – Durham Bulls 9 Well, Mark Cohoon looked very unimpressive yet again today to say the least. He was sitting 86 mph with his fastball and had the occasional 87 and 88 mph one, but wasn’t getting much more than that and while he didn’t walk anybody his command was way off. As long been the book on Cohoon, with that fastball he needs to be spot on with his command and [...]

2011 Draft Update: Mets Sign Missigman, Leathersich Close, Frenzel Wants Overslot, Other News
. [blackbirdpie url="http://twitter.com/mwilliams2929/status/83321476496883713"] . The twitter account says it is the official page of Spartanburg Methodist College Baseball, the school Missigman had committed to, so this is likely indeed true. Missigman has been as high as 89 mph with his fastball and at 6’4″ 170 lbs. there is still some projection left in his frame. There is not too much other info out there on him other than he throws a 70 mph [...]

Same Old Song, Davis Could Miss Rest Of Season
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Ike Davis is expected back in two weeks. That was mid-May. The news isn’t good for Davis, whom GM Sandy Alderson said could require season-ending surgery after a MRI today revealed cartilage damage along with the bone bruise. Davis had been wearing a protective boot, and the hope is the blood flow in his leg will improve enough to allow him to start running in three weeks. If [...]

Collins, Reyes, Einhorn And The Mets
In the midst of chaos, we have calm – while the newspapers are screaming about the Mets team, they are quietly learning how to work together, and they are listening to their manager, Terry Collins. This is the best Mets team in years because of him – he puts his players first and they know it. Did you know that he speaks to each of his players every day? You couldn’t have a better manager [...]

2011 Draft Update: Mets Top Pick Brandon Nimmo Wants $2.5 Million
As my colleague HoJo wrote last week in this post, the New York Mets announced that they have signed 12 draft picks from the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, including the club’s second round selection right handed pitcher Cory Mazzoni from North Carolina State University. According to Jim Callis of Baseball America, the Mets signed Mazzoni for $437,500 which is $77,000 lower than the slot guideline of $514,800. Callis added that sometimes players often cut deals [...]

Collins Could Move A Suddenly Hot Jason Bay Up In Order
Last night, struggling leftfielder Jason Bay homered for the first time since May 13 in the sixth, breaking a string of 104 at-bats without one. Bay also hadn’t had an extra-base hit since May 20, a stretch of 89 at-bats. It was a great night for Bay who also blasted a triple off the wall, and had a single and a walk in his best game of the season. He also made several nice catches in left. [...]

Mets Promote Top Prospect Matt Harvey to Double-A
The Mets have promoted 2010 first-round pick Matt Harvey and fifth-round pick Matt den Dekker from Class-A St. Lucie to Double-A Binghamton. Harvey, the seventh overall pick in last June’s First-Year Player Draft, was 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 14 starts for St. Lucie. After following a sensational start to his pro career with a rocky month of May, Harvey completed his Florida assignment with a 3-0 record, 1.55 ERA, 40 strikeouts and seven [...]

Mets Farm Report: June 21st, 2011
Buffalo Bisons 9 – Durham Bulls 1 Chris Schwinden worked with a lead the whole game and pitched exactly how any manager wants a pitcher in that position to pitch. He was pretty efficient with his pitchers and threw 66% strikes. He could have come out for the 7th inning if needed (just 92 pitches), but the game was well in hand at that point so the bullpen took over after Schwinden gave up just [...]

Mets Must Trade Reyes? Says Who?
Just got a chuckle out of an article I just read by some guy called Rob Parker of ESPN New York. Our friend (not really), writes that because the Mets have been rebuffed by Jose Reyes, they have just one option; trade him. If the Mets weren’t sure what to do with Reyes — trade him or try to re-sign him — it should be crystal clear now. The Mets must trade Reyes, their All-Star shortstop, for the best [...]

Gee & Co. Smashed, Mets Lose 7-3
Dillon Gee had his worst major league outing, and the bullpen didn’t fare much better as the Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics, 7-2 Game Notes Dillon Gee had a horrible outing, and it isn’t shown by the basic stats. Dillon Gee allowed four runs on three hits, striking out one but walking SIX. Gee walked in a run, and just got burned by an inability to put batters away. With the bases loaded in [...]
