Who Leaves The Rotation If/When Johan Returns?

It is no secret that the Mets starting pitching has been outstanding this season.  The starting pitching has been one of the main reasons why the team continues to hover around .500.  As Johan continues on his road to recovery, if and when he does return sometime in the next month or so, Sandy and Terry will be faced with a very tough decision.  Who do you remove from a starting rotation that is pitching [...]

A Look At Top Trade Deadline Targets – Hitters

Jon Heyman of SI.com gives us some food for thought as he puts together a list of this season’s potential hitters that could be moved at the trade deadline. “The biggest everyday star with a chance to hit the trade market” Heyman says, ”is the Mets’ great shortstop Jose Reyes”. Here is an early look at the potential trade market for the everyday players. These are just the top ten, you could read the full list at [...]

Get Well Soon, Derek

It’s hard to believe that Derek Jeter is not playing today – or, for that matter – for a couple of weeks. He’s on the 15 day DL and will return a couple of days before the Yankees play at Citi Field over the Fourth of July weekend. We all know that Derek often plays hurt because he can. This time, he can’t. In fact he will have another birthday on June 26th which will [...]

Buddy Harrelson Reminisces About ’69/’86 Teams

Former New York Met shortstop Buddy Harrelson has served as an ambassador for the Long Island Ducks for the past 12 seasons. He does a fine job with community and fan relations, but his true worth to the team involves his 16 years of MLB playing experience and another 11 years as a coach/manager. Harrelson will always be remembered as the pesky shortstop for the 1969 World Series Champion Mets. Buddy played stellar defense at [...]

Joisey Fans Prefer Phillies Over Mets

From Brent Johnson in the Star-Ledger: According to a new poll from Quinnipiac University, 48 percent of the Garden State’s baseball fans root for the Yankees, while 22 percent prefer the Phillies. Sixteen percent are Mets fans. Three percent root for the Boston Red Sox. Other teams make up 1 percent each. Damn Joisey, that’s cold! I wonder how many of them root for the Eagles too??

Mets Farm Report: June 23rd, 2011 Vaughn Homers In Lucie Debut

Buffalo Bisons 1 – Durham Bulls 4 Jack Egbert is finally where he should be in the organization and got the results that are to be expected from him against much more experienced hitters who he cannot fool with his junkerball repertoire. He had a terrible night with his control walking four batters and throwing 56% strikes, making the poor results even more understandable. One of his three runs allowed, however, was an inherited runner [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: When Cali Came To Town

The California Angels and the Oakland A’s were in Citi Field during this Mets last homestand. The most encouraging thing I can say about it is that the Mets played .500, losing two of three to the Angels, while winning two of three from Oakland. Sorry folks, but these match-ups against the American League West don’t work for me. These games have been almost exciting as watching paint dry. But, these games are on the schedule, [...]

Game 75: Cappy Gets Straight A’s In Mets 4-1 Victory

After more than a two hour rain delay, the Mets took the rubber game against the A’s with a convincing 4-1 win thanks to a solid effort by Chris Capuano and more timely hitting by Jose Reyes. Game Notes Chris Capuano gave the Mets six shutout innings, before leaving the game with a cramp in his right side, according to Sandy Alderson. Cappy scattered five hits and kept the A’s in check throughout his stint, striking out seven and [...]

Ron Darling Talks About The State Of The Mets With Me

Monday night I had the chance to talk to Ron Darling once again. This time In The Game Collectibles brought him in for a signing at Park East.  There were a lot of people coming in to meet him and some were as young as 5 years old and as excited to meet him in person as everyone else was! Now we all have our opinions on how the New York Mets are doing this [...]

Don’t Jump On The Bay Bandwagon Just Yet

In the last week or so, Jason Bay has looked like his old all-star form. Yes, he has looked exponentially better at the plate, blasting one, nearly two, home runs against the A’s Tuesday night, but if you look at his split stats over his disappointing tenure as a Met, you will see a common theme that could be the reason for his recent hot streak. In interleague play in 2010 and 2011, Jason Bay has [...]
