Paulino Making It Difficult Not To Notice
It was good to see Mike Pelfrey go out on that mound yesterday and deliver such a strong performance after a week of whispers that he could be pulled from the rotation and shipped to Buffalo. In his longest outing of the season, Pelfrey tossed 7 2/3 innings allowing just one earned run on four hits to beat the San Francisco Giants 5-2. After the game, Pelfrey had high praise for his catcher Ronny Paulino. “A catcher is very [...]

Mets Should Take It Very Slow With Santana
Last night during my interview with Kerel Cooper of On The Black, we discussed Johan Santana and his timetable for return. I said that if this team continues to play under .500, I believe they need to hold him off as long as they can. In fact, if the Mets continue to play poorly in the coming months, they may even want to consider shelving him for the rest of the season. It’s simply not worth bringing him back just to [...]

3 Up, 3 Down: The World Champions Came To Town
The World Champion San Fransisco Giants were in town for a three game mid-week series with the Mets. The Giants taking the first two games on the series, with the Mets winning the Thursday afternoon game. I had a great chance to be at Citi Field for the Wednesday night game, featuring Tim Lincecum. Lincecum is one of those players I always wanted to see play in person. 3-Up: 1) Mike Pelfrey: Pelf earns the number [...]

From Left Field: Not The Injury Bug Again
Shades of the 2009 Mets are already apparent here this season. Though that team was more talented on paper, it was ravaged by the injury bug which gave Jerry Manuel very little to work with on a day-to-day basis. Well, it seems that injuries already have played a role this season. Last year’s breakout player, Angel Pagan, is on the disabled list, though he will hopefully return shortly. The Mets were forced to put their [...]

Giants Fans Make Themselves At Home, Dodgers Fans Right Behind Them
In this photo from Yahoo Sports taken during last nights game, you can see evidence of what you probably heard during the game’s broadcast which was a crowd where San Francisco Giants fans far outnumbered Mets fans at Citi Field. The Mets didn’t roll out the red carpet for them, but the black and orange outfield walls surely made the loud and proud Giants fans feel right at home. Even the weather cooperated and gave the Giants [...]

Ground Zero, Revisited
It was a quiet President and a small group of White House officials who came back to Ground Zero today after first stopping at the Fire House where 15 firemen were lost. He then moved on to the site where Ground Zero has changed a lot since most of us last saw it. There are trees planted and buildings rising and the whole feeling is serene. Those who were invited guests were the families who [...]

Matt Harvey Fans Nine In Another Gem
After getting off to a blistering hot start to his professional career and not allowing an earned run in his first 22 innings pitched, Mets pitching prospect Matt Harvey hit a bump on the road last week and was charged with six runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out three in 4 1/3 innings. On Wednesday night, Harvey took the mound again and delivered a spectacular effort tossing 6 1/3 scoreless [...]

Mets Get Aced In 2-0 Loss Against Giants
Game Summary The pitching was there tonight, but offense was nowhere to be found. Capuano had a nice start, bullpen held up well, but Lincecum and bullpen just proved to be too much for the Mets offense. Game Notes Chris Capuano did a great job on the mound with 6.1 innings pitched and only two runs allowed on eight hits. Three walks and five hits also go under his belt along with his third loss. [...]
