Remember The Frenchy?

Jeff+Francoeur+Kansas+City+Royals+v+Minnesota+2n9Sq58FF74l

Things are looking up for the Mets right now and I just wanted to point out something quickly about an ex-Met. Remember Jeff Francoeur? It wasn’t too long ago that Jeff Francoeur sparked incredible debate over every single thing he did. No, really…every thing. There were fiery debates right here and I enjoyed watching all of them. Francoeur became the poster boy for “anti-sabermetrics” and I found the whole thing pretty amusing. In any case, [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: 2 Out of 3 In D.C. Edition

The Washington Nationals opened Citi Field this season by taking two of three games against the Mets. Our guys went down to D.C. this week and returned the favor by winning two of three down there. Sadly, the Mets six game winning streak came to an end on Thursday night, but I think after watching this team play on both Wednesday and Thursday night, the Mets aren’t going to be pushovers anymore. 3 UP 1) [...]

Benchwarmers: Are Mets Reserves Better Or Worse?

Like any other major league bench, many of the Mets reserves have already been pressed into some regular duty due to injuries or giving a slumping regular some time off. Last year, general manager Omar Minaya caught a lot of heat for lack of a strong bench and also having poor depth at several key positions. Has that changed for the better under this new front office or are things worse? It’s been well documented that new [...]

Prince Harry At Mets Game In 2010 (Photo)

In honor of the Royal Wedding and all the buzz around the Royal Family, I thought it would be an appropriate time to share my personal shot I took of Prince Harry throwing out the first pitch on June 26th, 2010 at the Mets vs. Twins game that I attended. If I remember correctly, Harry threw quite a nice first pitch for a strike. Congrats to Harry’s brother William and his bride Kate Middleton on their marriage.

What Are The Odds Jose Reyes Is Still With Mets Next Opening Day?

Jose Reyes is really lighting up the Mets blogosphere today with several posts debating the merits of giving him an extension that will keep him in Flushing. But what are the odds that that can really happen? Is there a number that would make both sides happy? MetsBlog was asked if 5 years at $85-95 million would get it done, and Matt Cerrone responded by saying Reyes would be offered less than that, $75 million [...]

MMO Fanpost: Anatomy of an At-Bat!

* * * Metsmerized Fan Post * * * Submitted by Metsie For months now I have tried to explain the concept of aggressively protecting the plate with two strikes. The concept is pretty simple. In any at bat you start off: 1 – You look for your pitch or a pitch you can drive and swing. (This is a key part no matter what the count!) 2 – Take whatever balls the pitcher presents to [...]

From Left Field: Murphy Is Clutch

You ever the get the feeling when you’re watching a Mets game that the batter will hit a home run on the next pitch? Well, I can’t say this is completely true about last night, but I was pretty close. After the debacle of a call by Marvin Hudson that erased Jose Reyes’ one-out triple, the Mets could have easily folded, just like they’ve been accustomed to doing over the last few years. That’s the [...]

Daniel Murphy: We’re Trying To Get To A Hundred

Daniel Murphy

In a column by David Waldstein of the NY Times, Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy, still overflowing with enthusiasm after a dramatic win, channeled his inner Tug McGraw after the game. Waldstein explains: Daniel Murphy, who had two very big hits and one bad defensive mistake, said after the Mets beat the Washington Nationals, 6-3, to pull within two games of .500 at 11-13, that the Mets’ goal is to win 100 games this year. [...]

Upon Further Review; Time For More Replay In Baseball

Like you I saw the play involving Jose Reyes at third base last night. Umpire Marvin Hudson blew it on all levels, from not seeing the play, to falling for the acting of Washington’s third baseman Jerry Hairston, to making a bad call, to not asking for help. I don’t think he was in proper position to make the call in the first place. Reyes was clearly safe, and his animated protest illustrates to me [...]
